Schwaltzvald Posted August 5, 2010 Share Posted August 5, 2010 So as I was downloading Makoto Nanaya for BB:CS I noticed a release for Earthworm Jim HD. First thought I was imagining it but soon as I saw the demo got along with the dlc. Here's a comparing the variety of Earthworm Jim versions. Never knew how horrid the gba version was. Can't ever see myself play the easier modes though. Overall in the demo, controlling Jim felt as fluid as I remember. Not sure how much it costs on the other consoles, but on the PSN it's about $10, which I may consider. Not sure about the multiplayer aspect of the game but hey I can't possibly go wrong with the original game; except for that fucking submarine level... WAIT ANOTHER COMPARISON, Stage 2 on the genesis versus What the Heck? on the snes. Blew my mind how different they are quality wise. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The SNES game runs in a lower resolution, so it is stretched horizontally and everything looks fat as a result. The sounds are muffled as well... it sounds like it was recorded underwater. Compare it with the sound effects on the Genesis. The SNES might have better color palettes, but it had less number of frames. Mike Dietz said he prefered working on the Genesis better because he had more frames of animation to work with and it was capable of a superior number of sprites on screen at any one time. Yeah, that underwater level was hell. Never could beat it as a kid. Not really a problem for me now though. Here's to hoping for EWJ2 HD sometime down the line. The Xbox version has like 3 frames of animation and no depth to the object whatsoever. I think the controls and gameplay felt a lot smoother then the original SNES version (played on easy mode). That said, I refuse to pay 10 bucks for a game that I probably already have. Hell I'd take escorting Pete, past the first house and into the better one as well as the damn submarine part over that balloon stage.
