The People's Remix Competition 210

PRCv9-02

Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

After a tie in PRC208, PRC209 ended in a tie again. Sggod89 and DjMokram both received three first place votes and they claimed the three points voting bonus as well. Evktalo could only watch and see DjMokram and Sggod89 win this round. This means again two sources.

Here's my source pick for Round #210:

*Dessert Factory from Castle of Illusion* on the Sega Master System, yet another platforming gem for Sega's 8-bit home console.

The game soundtrack by Tokuhiko Uwabo features very unique compositions that ooze with adventure and were ahead of their time.

This is one Mickey game that really deserves some time in the spotlight imho.

PRC instructions

  1. Limitations at ThaSauce require your entry to be 6 MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed (only as Bonus Mixes).
  2. Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by MONDAY JANUARY 23th 2012 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time: check my signature (below) or the ThaSauce page for the exact time left.
  3. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix. You can post it in the thread if that doesn't work.
  4. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted.
  5. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score.

SMS Castle of Illusion! I actually have a Clockwork Tower mix in the works with Pleiade currently. And Faxanadu! I'm just floored by the source choices. I'll just have to take part this round, and I'll try to get Pleiade to participate as well.

Oh wow. I couldn't agree more with DjMokram's sentiment about the Castle of Illusion soundtrack deserving more appreciation. I was really looking forward what the source choices would be and this just hit home, couldn't have been better.

Faxanadu is a game I remember mostly for its creepy dungeons/monsters and its haunting music. Nice pick.

Mantra is proly the most well-known track, with a clear melody that should proove interesting to arrange.

I've got the feeling that this is gonna be a great round. :)

Eino, if you ever wanna collab on a remix of Castle/Land of Illusion, lemme know. ;)

I have a start, I'll try to work on it a bit each day. So I'm pretty sure I'll have a tune to submit.

What I have is not what I had in mind at all, but that's pretty common for me. I usually load up a random-ish selection of sounds to start with, and fooling around with them often takes the piece to a different direction that I had in mind.

Musically speaking, I've totally lost focus over the past several weeks, so I believe I shall be doing this PRC thing fairly regularly for a while :D I'll either start next round or the one after, school permitting.

That would be awesome. The more participants, the better.

My brain is so distracted with a billion other things right now. As a result, mine sounds like crap so far. Not that this is new information or anything. XD

I suppose we'll see what the next two days bring...

EDIT: I have 1:24 so far. Oddly enough, even though it has felt like I've been working on this thing for quite some time, I haven't even broken four hours yet. o_O

Welcome to the voting stage

The mixing stage is over. 4 entries are submitted.

To vote, you should do the following:

- Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries

- Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen.

- Fill in the rank of the entries from first to third.

- State a reasoning for it.

- Participants are encouraged to vote. They aren't allowed to vote for themselve, but they receive an added first place if they vote.

Sggod89 has a vote that can break a tie but it doesn't count twice. DjMokram's vote doesn't have a bigger value as other votes, because he entered this round as well.

Uploading a track always makes me cringe at how broken the user interface is.

However, I've noticed that the bot-infested forums have been wiped clean.

Gives me hope that change is on the way for ThaSauce's design in 2012. :-)

I hope it gets fixed. I contacted several ThaSauce moderators about it, but never got a response.

lol jk This was a great round! I attempted to remix Castle of Illusion, but it was a tough source for me to translate into guitar. I did have something going, but it wasn't that great and I was running out of time....

Just finished voting, and it was a pretty tough one to call for me. They were all pretty good, I almost did not want to even cast an official vote. Anyways, see you guys next round ;-)
