Music will probably still suck.

The first one had Jun Senoue trying to imitate Nakamura's style and not doing particularly well (when Jun himself has made his own fantastic Sonic music; see: Rusty Ruins)... And they thought they could get a "retro" sound by using a crappy compressed drum sample because I REMEMBER THOSE DRUM SOUNDS FROM THE PAST BEST SONGS EVER.

And seriously, that final boss music of Ep1? That's what they came up with? Especially after, like every other Sonic game?

I love Jun's work but he completely tripped overhimself with the Casino Night Zone imitation track. Then again that's my favorite stage in all of sonic-dom so he was just setting himself for failure with that :)

Whatever happened to Nakamura anyway? I was hoping he would contribute to Sonic Generations but I didn't see him in the credits. I wasn't really fond of how, in order to get a "classic" feel, decided to go with House and Dance renditions of classic Sonic tunes.

Edit: Actually now that Sonic Gens has been released and Sonic 4 is more or less despised for what it was, I think it's a great time to push this remake http://sonicfanremix.com/ The demo has 2 levels to play, Horribly unfinished but loads of hope for new sonic games.

That actually looks really awesome. Why can't Sega do something so simple? The question is how does the demo play? I tried to download it but the file was removed from Mediafire... :whatevaa:

When I tried to get the demo I had to find a seeder hidden deep within the forums. The link for that is now dead as well...

Good thing someone uploaded another!

After looking through the forums it seems the creator wants to get back to work on it and he released what he has done so far for chemical plant.

I'm getting this one now, I have no idea if it's good/bad/malware or whatever.

I played it a few times and the demo almost perfectly mirrors the old Sonic physics that SEGA hasn't been able to duplicate themselves. Sonic Generations came close though but I still think this demo plays better.

The motobugs with headlights in the rain was a nice touch.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just want to remind the Sonic Fandom here that they brought Sonic's vicious cycle of quality upon themselves for reasons I don't need to illustrate because they already know.

I myself have been wanting to play Sonic 4 ever since I saw it. It can't possibly be as bad as people make it out to be. (Especially since I've recently replayed the older Sonic games and found myself wondering why people are as crazy for THAT gameplay in the first place)

Fool me last 14 installments, shame on you.

Fool me last 15 installments including this upcoming one, shame on me.

Except Colors and Generations were actually good, and Unleashed had some fun elements as well.

The main problem with Sonic 4 (other than the broken physics) is that everything is just a rehash/remake of stuff that appeared in the original trilogy. The three Genesis games were fresh and new and showed creativity between installments. Sonic 4 just went back and pulled stuff from the old games in the name of playing up the nostalgia, and as a result it's pretty forgettable. Granted, Sonic Generations did much the same thing, but it was much more fun and just felt a lot better.

You forgot the part where it tried and failed because the people behind Sonic 4 didn't know how to code a damn physics engine.

Sonic 4 would have been better if it had proper physics like the old games. This is the same reason why Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations felt good. Because he had the same physics as the old games.

I believe because of the whole 'we lost the originals source code' excuse that the physics were modeled after Sonic Rush, which of course was nothing like the Genesis games.

Of course the real question is, will it have lock-on technology with the first episode? Are they going to overhaul the first one to better fit the second one's engine? Are they going to bother releasing all of the episodes down the line to create the *actual* Sonic the Hedgehog 4? And of course, are they going to hire gecko as a composer since this cookie-cutter attempt at 'retro' is laughable at best.

I mean, I would hope SEGA should realize that slapping your mascot in a car insurance commercial doesn't do much for sales if the product you sell is shit to begin with. But they have said they've fixed all of the complaints, so we'll have to see.
