Blue Mary

SNK

1995

ocr4_mascot66.jpg

Bio

Born and raised in Southtown, U.S.A., Mary Ryan trained to mete out justice on the crime-infested streets just like her father. With a body strengthened by Commando Sambo martial arts, she completes brawl-inclined assignments that weaker agents would fail at. Her late partner's jacket tops off her casual streetwear, and his nickname for her stuck when he ordered a like-named bar drink: a Blue Mary.

The annual King of Fighters tournament is an appreciative opportunity to track criminals' actions and to further her training. In hand-to-hand combat, Blue Mary executes bone-crunchers like the Mary Headbuster, Spin Fall, and Vertical Arrow, to name a few. Meanwhile, there are those who keep an eye on the blonde, like her mystery client, gauging a similar chance to strike...

Ahh... things have happened when I've been gone, I see. Hm. Well, thanks for the bios, people! :) Looking good. LT, I'm glad there's some progress being made on the other end. I'm not sure many of the bios are 100% done yet, I'm afraid, although most of Polo's, Watkinzez' and Linearity's work are done. The Coop's stuff is finished, too, I think, but we'd like to implement his longer versions somehow, either by providing a link to them in the primary bio, or some other way. Also, that "edit and processing period" I wanted was mostly to go through things again and to establish a definite layout for the bios. Now, LT has created one already, and I think it works, with a few exceptions. I want the character name clearly visible (as in the current layout in this thread), and the character image to the far right. Here's an example (pardon my poor image editing skills). I trust the layout is editable so that if one bio's layout is edited, it applies to all bios?

Hm. Hey, LT, how about this: I read through the bios one by one and "flag" them in the first post list by making the entries in the list into links to that bio. That way, you'll know which bios are done, and as you add them to the wiki, you'll flag them by adding the word "Wiki" next to every entry you add to the wiki in that same list. That way we'll know what's going on. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate it if every one in this thread informs me if there are issues with any bios, your own or others'. My Doom Trooper bio definitely needs a brush-up! :-D

Also, I dib Dr. Wily.

Watkinzez, Naked Snake has already been done (or has he? I'm so confused. :( ) , twice, and both times were pretty bad, so I'd appreciate another try there. Thanks.

I still have to write the "What are" guide to the Darkstalkers sieres. I've been a bit busy with other things, but I'll try my best to get it done and posted before this week is over.

If you want to add my long bios, why not just add a line at the end, below all the game data and such. Something like...

"If you'd like to read a more indepth history of **name**, follow this link. Be aware that there are spoilers contained within it."

Yeah, Coop, that's pretty much what I had in mind. There's still no great hurry to finish the "what are" guide, but if you could do it this week, that'd be sweet. I'll be busy these days, doing this and that, trying to make the most of my last days of vacation this summer. I'll start working again next week, and then I'll have more time for the project again (ironically enough). :)

I'll dib Naked Snake and see what I can do.

I already did him a few pages back.

Naked Snake/Big Boss

Konami & Kojima Productions

1987-2006

ocr4_mascot107.jpg

Background:

Naked Snake (aka Jack) was born in the 1930s, as a Japanese-Caucasian American in Hawaii. In 1942, the entire American side of his family was killed and the Japanese side taken to concentration camps. In 1945, Snake joined an infantry unit to combat Nazis in France, and returned to America after the war ends. A few years later, in 1950, he joined The Boss as her disciple, and she then left him for a top secret mission in 1959.

In 1964 (5 years, 72 days, and 18 hours after The Boss left him), Snake took part in FOX's Virtuous Mission (MGS3), to rescue Sokolov, a Soviet scientist being held captive, and escort him to America. However, Sokolov was kidnapped again when The Boss defected to the Soviet Union. A new operation was set up, Operation Snake Eater, and Snake had to return to Soviet Russia, recapture Sokolov and kill The Boss. After surviving the mission, he was given the title Big Boss.

In 1970, rogue members of FOX started a revolt (MPO). To prove his innocence, Big Boss had to hunt down and kill the FOX members. To this end, FOXHOUND was formed. FOXHOUND was a unit of elite operatives that were given missions of top priority.

In 1972, Big Boss became injured in the Vietnam war and fell into a coma. During this time, he was cloned (the 'Les Enfants Terribles' project), from which Solid Snake, Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake were created.

Big Boss would go on to create Outer Heaven, the terrorist facility that was infiltrated and destroyed by his clone, Solid Snake, in 1995 (MG), and then Zanzibar Land in 1999 (MG2), where Solid Snake ended Big Boss's life once and for all.

In 2005, FOXHOUND, now a terrorist group led by Liquid Snake, took over a military base in Alaska (MGS), demanding that the US Government turn over the remains of the now legendary Big Boss, or they would use the bipedal tank Metal Gear REX to launch a nuclear strike on America.

Naked Snake

KONAMI

2004

ocr4_mascot107.jpg

Despite the code name, FOX unit operative Naked Snake is highly trained in guerilla warfare and stealth tactics. His ability to not be seen comes in handy when deployed on a mission midway through the tension of the Cold War. Left in the jungles of the Soviet Union, the objectives of the Virtuous Mission are simple- retrieve defected scientist Nikolai Stephanovich Sokolov and return him to American soil. Why? Sokolov’s role in developing some nightmarish weapon must be stopped, lest a whole new war begins. It would begin a new age of fear.

Snake’s experience is not limited to FOX, joining said unit after serving in the CIA and several years as a Green Beret. His specialty lies in the covert operation he was picked for, also holding a title as a seasoned combat veteran. The military equipment and weaponry experience are abilities Snake picked up from his mentor, American war hero The Boss. It is with her that Snake developed the exceptional fighting technique known as Close Quarters Combat. This system is one that is heavily featured in Metal Gear Solid 3.

While adept at the mission he is assigned to, the inception of the game presents Snake as rookie with many intricacies of the battlefield yet to learn. It is through the game that he becomes more experienced in the ways of the operation. Indeed, as he has a large role to fill...

I never really visited this thread before, but as soon as I saw the name Guile on the old list, I had to do him and instantly went to work

Well, I wrote one for Guile...but it seems too late (with Polo having done his), mabye way too long. Might as well put it up for compairison (I like mine a bit better, more information)

Guile

Capcom

1991

ocr4_mascot34.jpg

Character Summary:

Guile (full name William F. Guile in the live action Street Fighter film) is a very popular character among fans of Capcom's Street Fighter series.

In the Street Fighter universe, Guile is a member of the U.S. Air Force with the rank of First Lieutenant in the Alpha(Zero) series. He was promoted to a Major in the Street Fighter II seriesIntroduced in Street Fighter II, Guile joined the second World Warriors tournament in order to defeat Bison/Vega, as Guile holds Bison/Vega responsible for the death of his best friend, Charlie. The death of Charlie impacted Guile very hard. He left the Air Force and his whole life to extract his revenge. While in the offical storyline Guile never fought Bison/Vega, once you reached his ending and defeated Bison/Vega, Guile threatened to end Bison's/Vega's existance. Guile's wife and daughter appeared and pleaded Guile to not kill Bison/Vega, claiming that such behavior could destroy him and he had to give up his life of revenge. Realizing they where correct, he left Bison/Vega and retired happily with his family

Prior to these events in the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter Alpha(Zero) 3 explained exactly what happened to Charlie and Guile. Guile was charged with searching for his best friend Charlie after a secret investigation went awry. He investigated with this with Chun-Li and they eventually found the evil Shadoloo base in Japan where Charlie was being held. Bison/Vega attacked them, daring them to set inside his base. While Chun-Li investigated another area, Charlie and Guile set explosives around their mission objective: Bison's/Vega source of power (the Psycho Drive). Bison/Vega attacked them and while Charlie held Bison/Vega off, he convinced Guile to escape with Chun-Li right before the base exploded, killing Charlie and destroying Bison/Vega's body, at that time

Guile was one of the original "back-charge" characters in Street Fighter II. An example of how this was used would be his ever famous "Sonic Boom" (a ring of light energy that Guile would use as a projectile). The way to do this move would be that you'd have to hold the away direction for a two second charge and then tap the toward direction and any punch button at the same time. This was a very useful style of play which is still used with many different characters today for it's denfensive properties. Guile also had a suplex grab with a very long reach, a backflip kick named "Somersault Kick" (which also used a ring of light energy) to name a few of his moves

The look of Guile is though to be specifically engineered for American fans, because of his army uniform and American flag tattoos, and dog tags to name a few features

Guile was the lead character in the live action version of Street Fighter, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme. This storyline is not cannon to the offical Street Fighter story

Guile has appeared in many fighting games since his first appearance. Everything from the fast and furious Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, to the slower and more methodical Capcom Vs. SNK 2

Quotes: "Sonic BOOM!", "Go home and be a family man!"

OMG ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Happy birthday Bio Mascot Project.

Hah, holy shit. We've been around for that long now? ... Well, good thing we're starting to wrap up :)

EazyP, I'll give your bio a read and see if there's anything in it I think we should add to Polo's bio, but I don't have time right now. I'll get back to you soon.

Link to comment

EazyP - You're probably also disappointed I did Dan Hibiki.

Anyway, I see your approach is going through the story of the games in order of their release as opposed to the overall timeline. Guile wants revenge on Bison but never gets it, he goes home to be a family man, he fights again alongside Charlie until his friend "dies," Guile lusts for revenge again... Followed this way, your bio runs circles as opposed to picking up vital tidbits and thrusting forth with it.

Guile's ending we need not give away; that's for the player to reach on their own.

I know Chun-Li plays a role in the mission where Charlie goes missing, but I didn't include her because her presence has no direct or lasting consequence on Guile's mission / decision to flee (he took the order from Charlie, anyway). It might, however, translate to Chun-Li's bio (unclaimed, if you want it) as an example of her detective work tracing her father's murder to Bison.

I do like your description of the Sonic Boom ("a ring of light energy"). Easier to say than "spinning energy disc." A n00b reading about Guile for the first time wouldn't care how to execute it (hold back for two seconds, etc.) until they actually played Street Fighter.

And if the SF movie is non-canonical, why include it? That, and the animated series, are on the Wikipedia page anyway, for hungry readers.

Dafydd and/or Liontamer - I tweaked Wain's bio, which I now consider complete.

Aeris Gainsborough

Square

1997

ocr4_mascot4.jpg

Bio

In the slums of Midgar, we see a pink-clad brunette sell a flower to the mercenary Cloud Strife for the price of one gil. Harmless enough. After a botched bombing mission, Cloud wakes up in a crumbling church, where the same girl is tending more flowers. But she's happier for his health and durability than her garden's, aware that the Turks, scouts of the Shinra mega-corporation, are seeking her out again. To simplify matters, the girl enlists Cloud as her bodyguard in exchange for a date. And so Aeris Gainsborough joins the story of Final Fantasy VII.

Aeris is not your average flower girl. Talkative since childhood, she informs her adoptive mother when the spirits of people they love "return to the planet," as well as the planet's cries of pain. This sensitive spirituality shows in Aeris's low-on-health Limit Breaks: healing, status-cleansing, even shielding Cloud's party from onslaughts, blessed from the ground up. This is also why Aeris is constantly pursued.

As Shinra's reactors hungrily pump Mako Energy like oil, the planet weakens. Aeris's instinctive know-how and know-where of the substance may yet reveal the location of the Promised Land, where Mako Energy flows in abundance. But at what cost to Aeris, or the planet?

Ok, Polo, I've marked your Wain's bio as final by the above mentioned method.

I realized the megaman x bio needs rewriting. I'm gonna try to remind Smoke to do it.

The list of non-finished bios has been redone - check out the first post. Please tell me if there's a character in that list that has, in fact, been covered. Thanks.

There was some fighting recently about who was to do the last of the Project Justice characters. Bowman and Akira are still open, so go ahead!

Ryu Hayabusa

TECMO

1988

ocr4_mascot114.jpg

A long way away from Japan, Ryu Hayabusa’s father, Ken, has just been murdered in combat. It is too late when Ryu finds the note that his father left him. Fearing that he may not return home again, Ken instructs Ryu to leave for America in search for one Walter Smith, who may explain more of the journey to be taken. Ryu must take the Hayabusa’s secret heirloom, the Dragon Sword, in order to succeed on his quest. It is on this journey that Ryu learns the power of the mystical Demon Statues, such that they are in high demand with other powers working against him.

Ryu, star of Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden series, is a ninja who gains experience while on his journey. While travelling on his quest for revenge Ryu discovers the truth behind his father’s death, and the power contained in the sword he carries. Through the story Ryu shows calm and experienced maneuvers in the decisions he makes. He has his sense of honour in the fights he is involved in, yet never holds back. A streak of impatience has often gotten him into troublesome situations.

While appearing in the Ninja Gaiden trilogy Ryu is also part of Tecmo’s own Dead or Alive series, in which he vies for victory in the DOA World Tournament. Fueled by the disappearance of his best friend’s sister Kasumi, Ryu once again enters the world of combat in the first Dead or Alive.

As a DOA character Ryu is considered top tier, having exceptional reaction and execution time. Having a jack of all trades status, his weakness is in his inability to deal large amounts of damage with each hit. Using the environment to the player’s advantage is integral to using Ryu effectively.

R-9A Arrowhead

IREM

1987

ocr4_mascot123.jpg

The R-9A Arrowhead is the result of a line of prototypes made in order to combat the enemies of Earth. The inception of the game commands the player to “blast off and destroy the evil Bydo Empire”, and strike they must with their one ship army. R-Type was a game released when scrolling shoot em ups were in their prime, and Irem’s product brought forth several features that set it apart from the competition.

The Arrowhead, while a small ship, had many a weapon to even the insurmountable odds stacked against it. While the standard attack was a pulsing laser, holding down the fire button would unleash larger fireballs of various sizes depending on the charge time. A host of power ups could be gained so as to be used against the Bydo armada- the key of which was a piece of the enemy’s flesh called The Force. Described as “an indestructible living weapon”, the quazi-satellite object would attach to the front of the Arrowhead and fire devastating bolts of reflecting lasers, arcs of red energy or crawling yellow energy that would follow the top or bottom of the screen, destroying anything in its path. Its strength could also be used as a shield when under fire by the bosses the game threw at you, while desperately trying to hit the coloured jewel that signified its weak spot. And many bosses there were, a highlight of the R-Type series and a challenge to take down with the Arrowhead.

While the original game offered little detail in terms of the story, the sequels on later systems expanded on the events more. As it turns out the Bydo were made by humans four centuries in the future, but had miscalculated in sending their grown army to an enemy solar system. Stuck in a wormhole, the evil entities traveled through time to the 22nd Century, ready to attack their creators’ ancestors.

According to Irem, the PlayStation 2 game R-Type Final will be the last game in the series, thus retiring the franchise.

Thanks, Paul (if you're ok with me calling you that  ). I'll try to read these through very soon. Good to know which ones you are happy with yourself, though - I'd like the rest of you to do the same thing. I agree on Penelo's bio being robotic, and I'm sure you're capable of improving it on your own. I'll look for spoilers asap. Also, does anyone know what happened with Linearity? I don't think he's popped in here in a while.

Ganondorf Dragmire

Similarly, the names "Ganondorf Dragmire" and "Mandrag Ganon" are apparently mistranslations as well. These names appear only in the English A Link to the Past manual. They do not appear in the original Japanese version at all, or in the American in-game text. The Japanese manual just says that "the man's name was Ganondorf, and his common name was Ganon of the race of evil thieves."

You ought to just have the bio titled "Ganondorf".

As a general message, it's great to see this is almost done! I look forward to it.

Alrighty David. Here's my first attempt at giving a general overview of the Darkstalkers series and the characters within it. Lemme know what's good, bad and ugly...

What is Darkstalkers?

To put it simply, it's a series from Japanese game makers Capcom, where fantastical characters that were touched by “darkness” either at birth, or later in life, fight one another. But these characters aren't your average run of the mill stock. In the series, there's a werewolf (Jon Talbain), a pair of succubi (Morrigan and Lilith Aenslaed), a vampire (Demitri Maximoff), a catgirl (Felicia), a mummy (Anakaris), a cursed samurai (Bishamon), an undead rocker (Lord Raptor), a merman (Rikuo), an abominable snowman (Sasquatch), a bee woman (Queen Bee), a Frankensteinian monster (Victor von Gerdenheim), an Aztec robot (Huitzil), an energy-based alien (Pyron), a bounty hunter (Baby Bonnie Hood), a Chinese ghost (Hsein-ko), a self appointed dark messiah (Jedah) and a vampire hunter (Donovan Baine). Some of the characters in the series, like Victor, are based off of classic literature monsters (in Victor's case, "Frankenstein"), while others are original takes on well established types of monsters. Regardless of each character's source, it's a colorful cast of characters to be sure, and each one has a specific reason for confronting (or being confronted by) the other Darkstalkers.

Some are good, some are evil, and a few even walk the thin line between the two sides. But they all share a pair of commonalities... they're all searching for something, and their searches will inevitably bring them all face to face. But in the end, only one of them can claim what it is they're after. The question is, just who will it be?

1997

ocr4_mascot106.jpg

Bio

The Seventh Heaven bar hostess, Tifa Lockhart, lets her buxom cheeriness lift patrons out of their gloom whenever possible. Few would learn of her own nightmares just by glancing at her face. Five years ago, Tifa witnessed her hometown burn, her father get slain, and her sweetheart Cloud disappear all in one night. Though mentally and physically wracked by the chain of events, the girl was brought to Midgar to recover, find work, and learn self-defense.

A tank top and mini-skirt give her ample mobility in any situation. When not serving drinks, Tifa pounds away at enemies with her tough-as-nails gloves and steel-soled boots, or gets creative executing a suplex. These strengths serve her in good stead when she joins AVALANCHE, a resistance group led by Barret Wallace, to counter the planet-molesting mega-conglomerate known as Shinra.

One day, out of nowhere, Barret brings the newest member of AVALANCHE: Cloud. He's changed since Tifa last saw him. Does he remember his vow to her from long ago? Or have years of mercenary work put money ahead of childhood romances? To keep her old friend from getting away again, Tifa urges him to permanently lend his skills to their cause - and maybe rebuild their lives.

Red XIII

Square

1997

ocr4_mascot93.jpg

Bio

With the number thirteen tattooed on his fire-red fur, this leonine creature is reduced to a research specimen in the hands of scientists of the Shinra corporation. This does not, however, dilute his instincts - or his intellect. Released during a "save Aeris" mission, "Red XIII" attacks his captor, then surprises and befriends his rescuers by speaking in the human tongue, complete with mannerisms and cool calculations about their escape plan.

Hailing from Cosmo Canyon, the headdressed "beast" is part of a tribe that protects their land from marauders. Though blind in one eye, Red XIII is able to tackle enemies with his claws and fangs or with his whole body altogether. Even the elders, conscious of their lengthy life cycles, consider him loyal for a forty-eight-year-old "adolescent."

Vincent Valentine

ocr4_mascot96.jpg

Bio

From his heavily red and black garb to his sin-provoked nightmares, Vincent Valentine is a shady man with multiple burdens. Once a Turk, a stealth operative for the Shinra mega-corporation, he familiarized himself with its staff and inner workings. He was not prepared when Lucrecia, the scientist he loved, became a test subject in the Jenova Project and grew terminally ill as a result. Vincent confronted the project leader, Hojo, who ended not only the altercation, but the Turk's career and humanity as well, one twisted act following another. When Cloud and company find him locked away in a coffin, Vincent has been asleep for thirty years.

Like a vampire shunning sunlight, the man refuses the travelers' questions until they speak the name of their target: Sephiroth. The elite officer, like Lucrecia, was another subject in the Jenova Project - now fully grown and bent on genocide. But why? Knowing that Cloud and his allies seek answers and atonement as badly as he does, Vincent lends his secret skills to the group, awaiting a payback encounter with Hojo.
