UMD Gamer Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert

Once again, it’s time for the Gamer Symphony Orchestra at the University of Maryland to hold their spring concert! Comprised of about 120 members, including a 30 piece chorus, the GSO is the first collegiate-level ensemble to dedicate itself exclusively to playing the soundtracks of video games, both new and old, and using this music as an educational tool to draw in newer, younger audiences to orchestral concerts. We’re pretty much like Video Games Live!, except with fewer flashy lights and more college students.

Our concert will take place on April 29th at 3 p.m. at the Kogod Courtyard at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., as part of “The Art of Video Games Exhibition.” The concert will be free and appropriate for all ages. You can expect to hear your favorite themes from “Kingdom Hearts”, “Sonic the Hedgehog”, “The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker” (which can be heard here on OCRemix: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02086/) and more!

To get the museum, simply take either the red, green or yellow Metro line to Gallery Place-Chinatown. The museum is just outside the station exit.

Mechanized_Angel: Thought about it! There was talk of doing it this semester, but it must have slipped between the cracks at some point. Being stuck in Russia at the moment, I, too, would appreciate a live stream. Maybe next semester?
