chillout / feel good music?

My mum's ill. She's been spending a lot of time lately in and out of hospital, getting tests done and being presented with some very unfortunate surgery options. The medication she's on had knocked her out most of the time and a side effect is a buzzing in her ear that keeps her up at night so she gets no sleep.

She has a few 'ambient music' cds in the house and they seem to help. The other day I travelled down to visit her and she asked me to put some music on whilst she rested in the back room. I thought i'd chance OCRemix's 'Threshold of a Dream' - it's a fantastic album and whilst not my personal taste, exactly the kind of thing that she wanted.

It seems to have gone down really well. I liked the fact that, for once, she was listening to stuff I listen to; it gave us something to talk about afterwards.

So firstly; thanks to everyone behind that album; you've made something truly beautiful that's helped someone in pain.

She's asked me if I can get my hands on any more like it. I've downloaded a few from the OCRemix website and elsewhere and made a small playlist of things for her... but has anyone got any suggestions?

Relaxing songs ONLY - no heavy rocking or striking beats, just good chillout songs to help her through the pain? Any suggestions?

I guess this is where a vast majority of my piano arrangements floating around is going to come in handy.

Self-promotion aside, for more relaxing tracks that induce positive thinking, I'll put up some recommendations:

A few recent ones and a few classics. I hope these can be a good starting point. And thanks for the positive tales regarding Threshold of a Dream - we that worked on the project feel very glad that it contributed to something like this :)

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the most infamous unfinished remix. :P

and along with that: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00883/ by Disco Dan

Hope your mom gets better man, I know how it is to feel helpless while a family member is in pain, my mom has had 4 eye surgeries over the past few months and...it's hard to witness. Take care of yourself and your mom.

Thanks everyone who's suggested things; self promotion is not a bad thing in this case and MUCH appreciated. The more range I can cover the better...

It was the FF12 song that made me decide to ask if anyone else had any suggestions. You've pointed out some songs i'd never heard before which are fantastic and i'm sure my mum will appreciate them as well. Thanks

I released a sort of ambient / chillout album last summer, which may fit what you're looking for:

I see Boards of Canada was recommended earlier in this thread, and I have to agree. It is some pretty chill stuff.

I'd also recommend an album called "Chillout Lounge" by David Arkenstone if you can find it. It has had a big influence on me, and I love to listen to it when I'm feeling mellow.
