Strangest Music Requests You've Ever Had

Inspired by one that happened not 20 minutes ago:

HIM: "Hey JS, came across you by accident in my quest to find a musician that would be up for trying hypnosis to create something from his subconscious where the potential for creativity is limitless (think how crazy dreams are...that's the part of the brain that becomes hyperactive during hypnosis)...have been working with some MMA fighters with it recently but have always wanted to work on a project like that. Hit me back if you'd be up for talking more about it. Everything I saw in your profile, it would be very exciting to get to work with you on this."

ME: Hey ****** - I didn't see your message until now - it was in my "Other" folder.

Well, I'm always interested to try new things in a musical context but I don't really understand what it is you're asking me to join up on. Without trying to toot my own horn, I'm already quite in touch with my creativity - that's not really something I need to be hypnotized to tap. I also don't know how you would hypnotize me over the internet.

Having said that, feel free to write me back the details of whatever this is and we'll see what we can work out.

HIM: Hey! no worries...I'm back and forth from Ontario to Maryville so am in the area actually. I understand about being tapped into your creative side...that's actually the whole point of the exercise. Your subconscious mind is a whole different territory and there could be some interesting or surprising results when you can shut down the clutter in the conscious mind. Hoping you'd still give it a shot and we could set something up.

ME: Even if my body could do something like that (for various, medically-recognized reasons, I can't really be hypnotized), I still run into the problem of allowing someone I don't know, from another country, to meet me somewhere in my town and render me unconscious as an "experiment" for an unnamed "project" and without any ties or links to anything.

Certainly you might see why I would be apprehensive about that.

If it's music you're looking for, we can still discuss something, but I don't allow anyone access to my unconscious mind and body like that.

(Full Disclosure: I don't really know anything about hypnosis other than you are not in full control of yourself)

HIM: No problem...you're not understanding hypnosis but thank you anyway, I would not be comfortable working with you as well. *BLOCKED FROM FACEBOOK*

Yeah, because I was the one being creepy there...

Anyway, whats your strangest music request?

Seems like an entirely non-creepy request.

One time I got hypnotized except I was entirely aware of everything, so it was kinda like I was acting. I had to pretend I was the Hulk and get mad because I wasn't green.

*EDIT - I guess I've never really had any strange music requests, but then I haven't been doing musics seriously for all that long.

Not so much strange as sociopathic, but one guy who insulted my music for about a year non-stop PM'd me on another forum asking me to do a song for some game he's making. This guy constantly called my stuff "garage band," implied numerous times that I've never made a good song, all kinds of crap. Then he turns around and asks me to make him some free music, as if none of that ever happened. Who the hell does that?

Also, lol hypnosis.

Man that happens literally all the time. Constantly!

Some people are dicks and say mean things, and they forget about it later like it never happened. The dickees, i.e. the people who were the victims of it, never forget that kind of stuff. NEVAR. I'm interested in making good music as much as the next guy, and having people hear it, but I just can't bring myself to work with people who are/were mean. It sucks all of the good vibes out of it. Everything is just tainted by that past wrongdoing.

Also, how's your Gunstar Heroes project going? >:3

I heard at least 1 song on that I could potentially work with.

But for the moment I still got too much crud going on.

This is why the only reply I gave that PM was a laugh. A physical one, I mean. I never even bothered messaging him back. :-D

I know, man, I got that request, too. I decided what the hell, so here was his response...

Good, I'm glad that you're open to releasing your subconscious musician within. Now you're getting sleeeeepy...

I don't really remember much after that. Woke up with blood all over my hands, shoes and carpet, though, and had some bitchin' music written on my computer, besides.

Last month, I had a request to make music for a children's dance routine. The lady wanted something similar to my Day and Night remix. It was for a church function, or something. I threw something together for her, and they liked it, so everything was cool.

Now, that in itself, is not strange at all, but things got a little uncomfortable when a couple of days later, that SAME lady asked me to make a few tracks for a porno that she and her friends are trying to make. WTF?!?! A PORNO!!!!

I guess that last few songs I've worked on kinda sound like something that would work in a porno, but holy crap!

...so I'm waiting to see how much she's going to pay me.

Dude I could have SWORN that gif was animated

how in the hell I saw it move, I don't even

EDIT: it is animated... I just opened it up in Photoshop, it must be on a timer or something. I thought I was losing my mind...

EDIT EDIT: and to stay on topic, I've never received any strange music requests. Although someone in the WIP forums asked me to remix a song from Sonic Riders. WHY? WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT?

I went to one of those unreputable, 2 year, for-profit colleges for audio/video production. My classmates were mostly ghetto thugs who thought their shitty little beat machine and an associates degree from this place meant they would become the next big hip hop star even though everything I heard from them the entire time I was there completely and unequivically sucked ass.

So for an assignment I threw together this little chiptune inspired electronica song in Reason overnight, and they hear it and think I'm some kind of music production god. Moments later, this exchange happens...

"Yo dawg, you ever heard of the Zeppelins?"

"Led Zeppelin?"

"That was it!"

"Yeah, they're a great band."

"I was listening to this hot track on the way here... what was it called again... something about Heaven..."

"Stairway to Heaven."

"Yeah mang! That track was tight! I was thinkin' maybe you could make a beat out of it for me to flow over. I'll pay you... I dunno mang, like $30 dollars."

"Yeah, I'll get right on that."

Back in primary school, around 2005, when the only thing I could write was lyrics, I came up with some mournful thing about how my crush/best friend (same person, it was a girl) moved away without telling me.

Two days later, a girl I knew asked if I could write a song about her. No money, no nothing, just a song about her. I was about eleven, so meh, I said whatever.

Now I've written all of ONE song to completion, and guess what? Not about her.

It does rounds on Facebook from me, plus it was part of a documentary on Aspergers Syndrome I was part of as a person involved, but no, it wasn't the mournful thing...still sad, but a new song.
