Phendrana Drifts Redux is an orchestral arrangement of Phendrana Drifts that I'm working on for Metroid Reorchestrated. Though comments regarding arrangement are welcome, I'm mainly looking for production issues (EQ, panning, humanization, etc.).

Amazing work here. Very professional sounding and truly captures that nice, frosty feel of the original. (Always liked the work Yamamoto did on this OST)Kudos on making it have something of a progressive feel as well...as if you're travelling through the Drifts.

I will say that initially the choir voice sounded just a TAD robotic, but upon further listening it meshes in nicely (but perhaps adding just a little more decay or... reverb or something couldn't hurt eh?). Nice job, and I look forward to the final version of this one.

you could put more organic feel to the choir, OR you could go even more synthetic and give it those sharp cutoffs and attacks of the Super Metroid days, if your samples hold up that is. When I think of wintery choirs, I imagine very sharp attacks with little to no marcato.

Well, obviously your track got my ears turning, so suffice to say tha I quite like your track, it's wintery without being Christmasy and dramatic without being melodramatic. Nice!

Thank you for all of your feedback.

For the choir, I tried using two slightly detuned samples, but it didn't sound very good so I nixed it. I tried using a soprano soloist, but, again, it sounded off. What I ended up doing was decreasing the velocity of the notes after the first note of each phrase. I think the roboticness is less noticeable, now.

I feel there needs to be some kind of pad or strings in the middle part. Chimes and glockenspiel are too loud, they feel a tad overbearing. There seems to be a little blip in the left channel at 0:27. Just some things I noticed.

Agreed that the chimes are pretty loud, not song-killing but they could be a bit quieter.

I found it interesting that although it's very recognizable as Phendrana Drifts, it also very much reminds me of the style of the original Halo OST.

Anything I picked up on was minor at most, I'd say you have a pretty solid track on your hands :)

I lowered the volume of the chimes/bells and made a couple slight panning tweaks: https://soundcloud.com/willpisani/phendrana-drifts-redux-12-31

I have been listening to music from the Halo series recently, perhaps some of the style rubbed off on me.
