The Derrit Posted June 19, 2013 Share Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) if they do i'm sure it will save them a bunch of people but after all this i took a long hard look at why i would want to have an xbox over a ps4, and looked through my 360 games and saw how many of them i could only play on xbox. long story short: halo games and gears of war. i like both of those series quite a bit but there are so many other series on playstation last generation that i'm either interested in or could see myself liking. uncharted, jak and daxter, metal gear solid (at least 4 was only on playstation), kingdom hearts, infamous, god of war (that's a REALLY big one), gran turismo, little big planet, sly cooper, rachet and clank and motorstorm. that's a lot. i probably like the xbox controller a little bit more but how hard is that to get used to really? and the whole goodwill thing is frankly big as well. i'm more inclined to give my money to a company who at the very least has the good sense to not try and pull something like that without thinking it requires a very good, thorough explanation. even though i now have a better understanding of what they're doing with xbox, and it's not all bad, their approach was 'hey, we're microsoft. this is what you're going to buy. take it. we don't care if you don't like it because you're sheep and like halo so you'll buy it.' i'm glad if this is true, because it's healthier for everyone, but it doesn't change my mind. edit: it's true. but really? don mattingly posted this? he should be fired by now. Sir_NutS Posted June 19, 2013 Share Posted June 19, 2013 So, after the confirmation, allow me to repost this: SO, after the overwhelming positive response to sony at e3(seriously, I've never seen anything like it before), plus the majority of the press praising and supporting them while openly mocking microsoft, plus now EA coming out and publicly stating they didn't lobby MS on the used games/online requirement crap thus placing the blame on this stupid plan on them, who else thinks microsoft will change their policies before launch?Without the online requirement DRM for offline games and enabling used games, I feel a lot of gamers who decided to switch sides could come back. But the price point and the requirement of kinect which the overwhelming majority of gamers aren't interested in will still affect them a lot, specially the price point. I think Sony is in a great position to win this generation by far even if MS backs down on its bullshit. If they still go with this and don't change their policy before launch, well, I see them doing much, muuuch worse than the ps3 did at first in this generation. Remember Sony was just as cocky and delusional as microsoft is now, but they didn't have such a shitstorm around them at the time. So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means: An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360. Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360. In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions. These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Yeah after all I can't count how many times I've blindly agreed to a legal agreement in order to rush an update on my PS3 or install any PC game ever. A knee jerk reaction to something different shows the immaturity of the gaming community on the whole. Moving away from physical copies of games makes sense in the long run, regardless of what we as gamers are used to. If I look casually at my friends list on xbox at any given time, there are more people watching netflix and hulu than there are playing games. Don't you think a company with such an overwhelming amount of money and resources knows what is in their best interest? That being said, I gave up on the 360 being a game console a long time ago. Most of the innovation and interesting games are not on the system, or not exclusive to the system.
