The "who uses what" thread

Recommended Posts

I can't remember if I've posted here.

FLStudio 6

Goldwave

Cool Edit Pro

Nothing else...and on a crappy computer. I have to turn the lag in FL up by a LOT so that it's able to run without chopping up when I have a lot of samples playing.

For sounds, I use just soundfonts that I can find for free and samples that I make myself.

The above setup is going to change as soon as I get a job.

Some additions to my setup... M-Audio Keystation Pro 88, Sonic Reality's "RAW" Universal Groove Kit, Dimension Pro, Wusikstation 3, and Gigastudio 3 ensemble.

Dang, dude. I've seen the list of stuff you have on your page; I'm envious. Sweet pickup on the Keystation.

Has anyone picked up Komplete 3 yet? I'm thinking about that kore thing... Sounds interesting, but I need some more feedback on it first. How is FM8 different then FM7, Yoozer?

Uh, recently I got about 8 new mics (2 SM57s, 3 58s, an audio techinica condenser, and 2 small condensers), a nice stereo preamp and a handful of stands.

Yeah, I have Komplete 4, actually. You can't beat that package in terms of value for money. I'm using Akoustik Piano and Elektrik Piano regularly, for sure; Guitar Rig 2 is fantastic (even though I'm a novice guitar player). FM8 is an upgrade over FM7 in terms of easy editing features, but especially in terms of preset browsing. They added literally thousands of presets and you can now search via the KORE browser even without having KORE. So, if you want warm pad sounds... you can simply highlight "Pad" "Warm" "Sustained" "Analog" for example, and it will narrow down the list of presets for you.

I haven't used Absynth 4 much, but then again, I was never a big fan of Absynth. A little too experimental for me, I think. Battery 3 is cool though!

I have komplete 3.

Pro-53 and Reaktor are my favourite synths to use. Reaktor itself is oh so sweet because you can literally do anything and everything with it.

the only things really I haven't really touched much in komplete 3 is the vocoder and the spectral delay, although I should give the delay another chance.

But yea, I totally recommend it, especially if you can pick it up for that cheap 400 price now or whatever.

Yeah Komplete 3 is really the shiznite. I highly recommend it. Kontakt 2 is incredible. Absynth has a really high learning curve but it is ridiculous. I'm only starting to scratch the surface of Reaktor 5. Steam Pipe2 synth in Reaktor 5 is friggin awesome.

Skrypnyk: For ambient style music spektral delay is a god send. The basic delay functions are wicked easy to use. Also with the vokator you can enhance the overall dynamics of your piece with just a touch of a button.

Since I'm sure everyone is simply dying to know what I use to mix, here's my studio:

studioo.jpg

Here's a list of everything in my studio (sorry if the numbers in the picture are hard to read):

1. A 90 $ acoustic I found at a garage sale.

2. A guitar given to me by a friend of my father's.

3. A Yamaha PSR275.

4. My Axiom 49 semi-weighted USB MIDI Controller.

5. FL Studio 6 XXL Edition.

6. An HP Pavillion a1213w.

7. A cheap, Vantage bass.

8. An M-Audio Fast Track guitar/mic recording interface.

9. Pioneer CS-C9000 speakers.

It's not much, but it gets me through.

Here's more stuff I've added...

  • Alesis AI-3 AD/DA converter rack
  • Alesis AI-1 AES/EBU-SPDIF-ADAT format converter rack
  • 2 ADAT racks complete with ELCO snakes (you can use these racks as cheap converters if you aren't fussy about 16-bit)

  • Furman PL-8 Series II power conditioner rack
  • Yamaha power amp that I made custom rack ears for
