HoboKa Posted February 6, 2015 Share Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Round 30: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Dark King Theme "one of my favorite OST" -gercr Midi Deadline: Feb 23 @ 2PM Mon Vote Ends: Feb 26 @ noon Thursday Submit your remix Here when completed. **If you have technical difficulty with account activation at ThaSauce, please contact me via PM and I will submit your track and will also tally your vote** MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines 1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted. 2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell. 3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met. 4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max). 5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. 6. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx) - Certain sad or moody source tunes don't have drums or percussion for a reason. Especially if other compo's are being participated. I'm of course assuming everyone's life is going swimmingly to make such accusations. i'm just being concerned about the compo. Well luckily as supercoolmike pointed out, I made this round longer than normal, kinda like a "monthly" round, so should be a bigger window lol. Oooo, bawwww... now this is a tempting source. I'm cool either way, I'm happy to have started something out of a nostalgic source tune, and even if I managed to continue this one, I think it's probably pretty non-MnP so I'd only submit is as a bonus, most likely. That was my bad, it is indeed still not due yet. Man this round has been probably the worst in terms of management - getting all the dates mixed up and done incorrectly. Eino Keskitalo Posted February 23, 2015 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Didn't manage to transcribe much more than the bassline, apart from the intro and the eight bars in the middle of the source that served as the starting point for the adaptation to this sound. So it's a skeleton, but maybe it'll be an interesting skeleton to listen to nonetheless.. I'm happy to have started this tune, as FFMQ was one of the first soundtracks to make me really notice VGM, and it's still a really good soundtrack. Hmm...well, I finally know how to properly sub in people's tracks now AND how to properly credit their name at ThaSauce, so just pm me whenever you wanna submit something for MnP - just try to give 24 hours notice or something. I'm willing to bet that Bundeslang has a better idea than me as to why Rama is so reclusive/hard to reach these days =p - (or maybe Starla knows more). But yeah, for now, anyone who can't set up or access an account at ThaSauce can just contact me via PM and I will do my best to submit your track in asap.
