Hello!

I'm Dan, the host of "The Game Room Music Radio Show"!

It is an hour-long show where I play some of the very best VGMusic from all generations and from composers all around the world! It airs on Beacon Radio, the Online Student Radio for The University of Massachusetts Boston.

Today, May 4th, marks the 15th Episode of my show, and to celebrate, I'll be making today's show consist wholly of the remixes found right here at OCReMix.org! The show starts at 6pmEST. I hope you can catch the show and I really hope you enjoy!

Listen to the show over at the station's site: www.beaconradio.us

Not at the PC and wanna listen on your phone? Download the free "Live365" radio app via the Play Store or on the iPhone App Marketplace.

And the show's small FB page is: www.facebook.com/BacklogGamers

"Keep rockin', baby!"

_____________

Requests taken-- thanks all for sharing! There's some Grade A music in here, some which I've never heard before! I don't guarantee that every song posted ITT will be included, but I definitely have a handful of them on today's show.

There's too many good ones to mention... ! Here's a bunch of the most impactful OCRs for me: infinite natalie, Wicked n' Floating, Halls of Abandonment. I don't know if these are suitable for your show. Just be sure to include some Shnabubula and AeroZ. :)

As for shameless self-promotion, here's a track by me and Jorito from last autumn's Shovel Knight ReMix competition on the OCR forums. We just put the finishing touches on it, submitted it to OCR for evaluation (so not on the site yet, hope it goes well in the evaluation) and put it out on Youtube and Soundcloud. It was nice to get nods of approval from the original composers on Twitter. (: Links: Youtube , MP3, lossless FLAC

The station is certainly playing some nice VGM right now.

For some reason, Hogging Molly is the most viewed OCR mixpost I got involved with on Youtube. xD

If you just want something inspirational or crowdpleasing outside of my own, 7bit Hero's Bubble Dragon comes to mind. Sure it's more recent, but not only would it add variety to what else has already been listed, but it's hugely accessible to a pop music loving crowd too and had a beautiful production direction to go with it. Try it out! :-)

hi let me make a short list of artists that you should include.

(asking for specific remixes is a bit too subjective I think)

AeroZ: hella skilled with the bowed instruments and the electronic sounds. his album is currently featured on the front page of the site.

Benjamin Briggs and halc: together, they are Insert Rupee, and I think they basically invented the "9-bit" aesthetic.

Brandon Strader: metal by default, but flexible into so many genres. he recently usurped djpretzel as the most prolific remixer on the site.

djpretzel: literally invented the concept of video game remixes.

Joshua Morse: this guy is untouchable when it comes to groove

Mazedude: the most prolific remixer that isn't djpretzel, and basically always has been...until recently. he has a long history with the site, too.

ProtoDome: for your daily dose of chip jazz

PrototypeRaptor: the definitive electrohouse guy, last I checked

Shnabubula: piano prodigy turned electronic musician extraordinaire. possibly the most adored guy on the site? maybe thats just me, hah.

Sixto Sounds: the definitive rock guy since 2005

WillRock: the definitive 80s rock guy

XPRTNovice: I think this guy plays every instrument ever made? I'm not sure, but he's quite the dude.

Zircon: pro electronic sounds, and the guy behind some sample libraries you might be using right now

a different category, composers turned remixers...just off the top of my head:

George Alistair Sanger: 7th guest

Tommy Tallarico: Earthworm Jim, though he's on here for a pacman remix.

David Wise: DKC. he did a collab with Grant Kirkhope (Banjo Kazooie) and Robin Beanland (N64 era Rare in general), which should be required listening

Jake Kaufman: known more recently for Shovel Knight. he's an odd case because he's been around forever, and I'm not sure which came first: Jake composing for games or remixing from games.

there are many, many more people I could name...but I think this is a nice working list.

djpretzel: literally invented the concept of video game remixes.

That definitely did NOT happen, that is not the case. I think djp would be flattered you said that, but had to clarify he didn't invent the notion of arranging video game music. He did build a community around arranging VGM across all styles/genres/gaming systems though. Turned out pretty good!

Ok, going to list some remixes I believe you should include...

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01841- this remix is huge, cinematic orchestral epicness. Seems to be a favourite of pretty much everyones.

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01266- I think it shows a testament to the strength of a remix when its got vocals, and not only do people like it, they consider it one of the greatest remixes ever made that arguably precedes the rep of OCR itself.

http://dwellingofduels.net/dodarchive/08-12M7-Sidescroller_Month/01-Shnabubula-SMB,%20SMB3,%20SMW,%20MMX-Playing%20Super%20Mario%20World%20While%20Taking%20Mushrooms-DoD.mp3- Not from OCR, but as you can hear, shnabubula is simply an insane musical genius. It takes a truly superior mind to come up with something like this.

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01558- One of OCRs all time classic remixes, and for me, THE essential Zircon track out of his vast discography of remixes.

I also second Harmony's Dragon Song - http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01404- One of OCRs best remixes, and well known to have been named a favourite by Hiroki Kikuta himself.

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02699- Finally, the Bohemian Rhapsody of video game remixes. Don't think I need to say much more here :P

Not too many tracks there, but those are some of my suggestions.

I may have exaggerated slightly. :P

but still, djp is a vip.

a djvip, if you will.

QFT. This remix is also required listening.

I highly recommend the following:

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02318 - IMO, the most complex zircon ReMix in his collection. Sounds huge, and totally encompasses your ears. :)

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02655 - Some very intricate sequencing from Will, and really playful modulations.

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01977 - Tasty harmonies, neat solos, and a nice cycle of Inspiration -> Original -> Inspiree -> ReMix.

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02653 - Quite flawless execution, expansive, and goes quite far to impress.

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02488 - IMO, the definitive Aquatic Ambiance ReMix. Spot-on reverb, nice and smooth lead work, and expansive soundscape. Develops well too.

Show starts in 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Again, hope you like the show and enjoy the tunes. I'd also appreciate any and all feedback, really! The show's got a relatively small "listening base" (according to stats, about 40-45 listeners every show), so I'd love to hear back from some of you guys who are as passionate for VGMusic much like I am.
