Sony PS3

Isn't there a rumour going around via "Globe and Mail" that Sony's still putting out the console dispite bugs with wrong images and audio displayed while playing PS 1 and 2 games?

Okay, the deal is that the PS3 includes the graphical architecture of both PS2 and PS1 but not the sound system. It has to be emulated through the firmware. Since some games are non-standard soundwise, these games end up muted or distorted. The firmware will be upgraded however and these problems will eventually vanish.

yeah I only wish these douchebags were as informed as you or anyone who has followed the ps3 for some time.

Anyways, you're right, they will upgrade it, but I can't help but to feel uncomfortable about this. There's clearly no doubt about it, the Ps3, Xbox 360 and even maybe the Wii will adopt the PC games policy of "we deliver first, then fix later". I hate so much when I come with high expectations to a game(Titan quest comes to mind) only to find it's incomplete or plagued with bugs that will be fixed "later" with software updates. Sure, it brings some advantages, as there are room for new functionality to be added this way to your games, but they're giving that for a price anyways. The days where you turned on your console to play a game knowing that it won't need any shitty update to work properly(at least for the majority of games) seem to be going away to never come back again.

And Sony gets their awesome free publicity, and all it cost was people stupidly freezing themselves for a few days, and a riot where people got hurt. You can't tell me that in the Sony offices, they aren't grinning and ringing their hands over this. They knew it would happen somewhere, and it did. And now they have the most "wanted" item in the world right now. And all it cost them was cutting back the number of units to the US. Which will then be made up for when the next batch comes in, and everybody that sees this crap rushes out to get one for themselves.

Shame on Sony for letting it happen, shame on those people for letting it get that bad, and shame on the sheep that will perpetuate it by buying into the whole thing. And some of you wonder why I don't like Sony as a company; it has nothing to do with their comsole, it has to do with how they act.

A couple of my roommates walked away with FOUR systems.

FOUR

They camped out for the past week. Now they're sleeping before they put them up on eBay.

One of them was offered $2500 in cash just outside the parking lot of Best Buy.

With an input of roughly $2400, they're going to easily quadruple their initial investment. That's some hella stock value.

Regardless, get a ps3, it's good for your soul. =)

Also, my issues with the PS3 are not based on simply it being a PS3. the hardware is interesting, but given the PS2's dodgy durability, their overall attitude about where the PS3 fits in the next gen, and the way they deal with this release, I sincerly have doubts about the PS3's viability.

So...that begs the quesiton...how long before EA starts charging for patches?

Im sick of all the launch BS. Sony , MS, and even Nintendo should simply be making way more systems than this. Ive never been in a video game factory so I dont know how long it actually takes for one system to actually be created, but this whole situation is unacceptable. You dont see people camping outside of a store risking their health , job, and now apparently their very life for a CD release, or a DVD release.

I have a physically demanding retail job, as Im sure several others here do too, and I simply dont have the energy, much less time , to camp outside of a store simply to play video games (and I love video games). Im gonna show up at Target at around 6 am Sunday morning (which is ridiculously early for a day off) and try to get a wii. I dont really expect to get one. If not , oh well. Ive got money to give to Nintendo for its system, Im not giving them my health or job. This launch translates to some of the absolute worst customer service I've ever encountered, hands down.

End rant.

Yup, that's where Sony made their mistake. Releasing something that is wanted so much by people through out the world with such embarrassing numbers is really stupid. It just causes chaos.

Not to be offensive or anything, but tell that to the people waiting for the Wii on Sunday just to get the cards to download classic NES games...(uh oh! Throw this one in the Wii thread). I feel sorry for them in a way.

Link? That post doesn't make a lot of sense, since, last I checked, Sunday is over 24 hours away.

I'm really tired of arguing about the specs of PS3 with people who don't know one thing about it.

So if anyone wants to read something that is truly relevant and :gasp: unbiased, try reading this:

http://dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35372/?spage=1

All in all, both the 360 and PS3 are pretty good machines and yes, they're actually bargains for their hardware (compare something to a high end $2500+ PC). Comparing older systems in PSX and PS2's pricing to a PS3 really isn't fair since the technology is vastly different and their purpose as well. Sony's lousy PR scheme (Nintendo's was pretty silly too, but at least they were sly about it all) aside, I don't think you can deny the technical beef of the PS3.

People have often spelt out doomsday for 360 (Dreamcast-lol, etc), the Wii and PS3, but I actually think all three would do pretty well. And if PS3 starts getting the killer ap games, then I don't think it's really impossible for them to become a heavy favorite again. Though I think the 360 won a lot of converts with Microsoft's sly tactics of releasing the system a year early with a hundred games ready before its competitors. Including the constantly impressive online support. But hopefully that will spur the other companies to try and match it.

Worst launch ever. Sony should have waited until they had reasonable numbers to launch with.

I don't see what's so bad about a launch tactic that has been proven to work with the 360 and PS2. Even the DS and DS Lite had similar problems with demand far exceeding the supply in the first months of their release (at least in Japan). And those had their share of violence and launch hardware issues.

Also, even with all the violence, heckling and the intense scrutiny of the launch and its product, negative press is still press.

Watch CBSnews.com or any other major media outlet and they're talking about the frenzy over the "hottest holiday present". Because for a fact, there is a frenzy over it, for better or for worse.

And come a year after, and virtually all of the hardware concerns should be ironed out. Maybe two years for the internet-inept Japanese developers to get the hang of online services.

Wasn't able to get one. We were all ready to camp out at Best Buy at midnight because they said that's when people can line up. Then they change it at the last minute so that people line up at midnight and everyone gets a ticket, then they raffle off 25 or so people who get to get in line, and they have to camp out to get theirs. But there was like 200 hundred people, so the chances were pretty bad. Now that I'm in Anchorage, I better be able to get a Wii. We plan on going to a midnight launch then going to Best Buy a couple hours before it opens in the morning to get 2 each, so we can sell one and still make profit. The people at Best Buy are confident that it will be easy to pick up a Wii, and they aren't sure if they're even doing anything organized with tickets.
