Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on it; it's Metroid Prime's beautiful "Menu Select Theme." I think this is a tough one to meet with metal since it's a bit slow, but I like the direction it's going. The drums are a bit dull to me and the bass drum has a distinct pop sound, at least on the speakers I'm using. Other than changing that a bit and adding some variation or effects other than reverb to keep it interesting, I really like it. Also, the kick drum is hardly present, besides its click, and the snare is fairly thin. Overall, I'm getting a distant feel that just doesn't sound intentional. I like the cover, but it has room for improvement on the mixing. You have a pretty great guitar tone, which is unfortunately thinned out somehow. DS394 Posted September 25, 2016 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Oooh man whatever distortion effect you put on the guitar at the beginning got my nostalgia going so haaaard Just an icing sort of thing, but maybe if you put a phaser or flanger on it, you could capture the sound of the original track even more, but you don't have to. Other than that, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon of saying that the drums are not mixed the best. Is the kick drum playing the exact same rhythms as the bass guitar, or even at all? Cuz either the bass frequencies on the kick are being cut out by the bass guitar, or the attack on the bass guitar is too clicky. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
The Nikanoru Posted September 26, 2016 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Gonna have to agree with the other posters here - the reverb, choice of distortion, and I think a touch of chorus (?) on all the guitars kind of washes the sound, crowding out the bass and drums. I think this sound is find for the lead, but the rhythm guitar needs some flesh or boom to it, and the bass and drums need more distinction. I really like the arrangement, though.
