Hey there! It's kind of funny - this'll be the second wintery / Christmas-y source I select in this competition. :D

It's been an interesting year! We started by going through a

strange zone in an equally strange world and then warped through many
more strange worlds (even a maniacal mansion), and, like clockwork in an RPG,
arrived in a forest of monsters. But, with our unbreakable
determination, evil has finally been vanquished! Now, as the season turns to
winter and snow falls, it's time to unwind and enjoy the holidays! :)

With that (attempt at a "story") said, I'd like to submit Sasha's theme from Advance Wars: Dual Strike as the
source for MnP round #98 in keeping with a kind-of wintery tradition. To the best of my
knowledge, this song has not been selected in any previous rounds or in the PRC.
You may wonder how a Wars game character's theme would
be wintery / Christmas-y, but give the song about 30 seconds (if the first
few notes don't convince you). Whether it's a cover or a slight reinterpretation / expansion, I'm
looking forward to seeing what you all come up with, and thanks!

MnP ARCHIVE  made by Trism ;)

MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.

MnP Instructions/Guidelines

  1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted.
  2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell.
  3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met.
  4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max).
  5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry.
  6. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded.  BONUS entries are exempt of this rule.
  7. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct

MISC/TIPS
- When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier.
- In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

Sorry it's taken me so long to submit a bonus mix - a couple of the initial ideas I had didn't pan out quite as well as I had hoped (in addition to getting ready for Christmas!).

Either way, I'll definitely have something in today! :D

Edit #1: Bonus mix submitted! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and if you don't celebrate that holiday - I hope you have a wonderful day! :D

On a side note, I think I might've come down with some form of nasal infection.  It is a head-flu that refused to go away.  Ironically, alcohol cuts through it a tad, but it doesn't add any energy/willpower to plow through this shit.  Again, 'tis the season lmao.  But enough talk!  *throws a Jack Daniels* It's time to get my shit together and make a remix!  Hopefully somebody else shares my sentiment lol!

We all had the flu. Trust me i’ve had the same and it ain’t good. Sorry to hear that though, I really hope you recover well.

As for this round I’m afraid I will skip this one out. Great tune, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not getting me inspired

Oh well good luck to you all!

It may be the mead talking, but I quite like this little tune. Though now that I've listened back to what I've submitted, I realise that it sounds very close to the original. Fuck it, I'm not going back and changing it now. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone!

WB, Trism.  Merry X-Mas and Happy Holidays to you too!

Thanks for the entries, Trism and HoboKa!

I'm looking forward to what you pick for #99, Trism.

Also, I hope you all have a Happy New Year! :D

Belated edit #1: Thanks for the comments, TheVideoGamer! I was especially focused on making it sound as realistic as I could this time, so I'm glad that paid off! :D

Belated edit #2: TheVideoGamer gave some great critiques: I can't really think of anything to add! So, basically, I wanted to echo that I also loved HoboKa's sudden shift to a polka-style in the latter half of his mix (and that ethereal choir, beautiful), and I really loved the synth instrumentation (those bells, wow) and ambience of Trism's mix. Great mixes all around, here! Thank you, once again, for your mixes and time this round, and I'm looking forward to next time! :)

Mr. L, nice X-Mas-y interpretation of the theme.  The Low-Fi vibe makes it feel gives it a GBA vibe, so great nostalgia to be gleamed there.

Trism made a great come-back!  Love those chime bells (edit) and the percussion is, as usual, well produced.  It's very MnP, in all the good ways lol.  And nice play on words with the title "Advancing into the Holidays."
