MnP ARCHIVE  - made by Trism

MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.

MnP Instructions/Guidelines

  1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted.
  2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell.
  3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met.
  4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max).
  5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry.
  6. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded.  BONUS entries are exempt of this rule.
  7. Same rules for PRC voting Stage: don't vote for yourself, be considerate and try to give reasonable feedback as to why you liked X or Y entry.
  8. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct

MISC/TIPS
- When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier.
- In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

Well, I tried my Opera Browser for copying/pasting the Round Cover Page.  Still same problem with formatting not carrying over.  So if this isn't resolved soon, I will need to change the layout of the front page to make it easier to re-format.  I'll go buck the OCR feedback some more too.  The WORST thing is that hyperlinks get screwed too.  X_X

Dam, it just doesn’t want to cooperate with you today...

Oh well, hope it gets sorted. Then we can get the ball rolling.

Temporary Solution Kind of looking forward to a dark theme, even if it means not being able to copy/paste formatting.  Bright white makes my eyes bleed after 10 mins.  Something to do with the blue-light from modern monitors and cellphones being amplified by bright colors like white.

Yeah white isn't the best colour on your eyes. Whenever i use colours for fancy text's in word, i add a stroke to make it easier to read, not that it's fully relevant or anything lol.

Hey Hoboka,

I have never done a MnP compo here before. Am I allowed to submit a remix with substantial stylistic and tone changes from the original? I do not want to just upgrade the sound of the remix, I really want to take it in a new direction. Is that allowed?

Thanks for your help!

I'm not HoboKa, but I am an avid participant, who has been long enough to know the ropes, and also has entered a lot of MnP. Think of me filling in for Hoboka (Assuming he's kind enough to let me, otherwise i get my A$$ kicked).

Meat and Potatoes goal is to use what's called a Conservative approach to remixing. So all source notes and material are present, and the mood presented in the original is kept. If you wanted to remix a aggressive DnB track into an Ambient track, you would be better at PRC, out sister competition, as they encourage originality, and creativity. Of course some interpretation in the MnP competition is allowed, and recommend, however for the most part, homing in closer to the original source is the main focus, as that allows us to appreciate the artistry that went into composing the video game soundtrack. Best to PM him if you have any questions. I only work here lol.

Oh well, thanks for joining in, and good luck!

TIP - if you want some inspiration, I'd suggest you check out previous entrants from previous rounds. They will give you an idea, to how they have approached remixing the original source, from that round.

Dang, he does the PR job better than me.  Do what he says TVG lol.

Some directional change is OK, but if its vastly different, you may not get a first place vote.  Still, thanks for showing interest* in the compo darkbrandflake11.  (edit2) Genre swaps are OK too, but if the tempo + notation is too different, then that's a hard sell.

edit: skoshu/Nase's entry for this round was heavily altered, but it kept the mood intact fairly well with some evolution.  That's the kind of wild re-adaptation that is good here.

Source, thal shall be-eth up soon oh great one..

I can be a handful lol

Oh, I think I can top you in annoyingness AND difficulty to deal with, mah boi.  I just recently had a meltdown in one of the private chats for a current project, I will say no more beyond that.  One of about 2 dozen ,maybe, in why whole time at OCR??  I can't handle stress for shiiiit.  Maybe that's why I prefer the lax atmosphere in this corner of the woods.

On to relevant stuff...I should've at least phoned an entry in.  Ah well.  I like the discreet additions you put in [Nebulous Funk] to switch things up.  Production quality is OK.  I appreciate the generous amount of reverb too, (edit) I love going full-ham on the reverb lmao.

edit2

Sorry turnout wasn't optimal @Rejwan.  Hopefully your next pick will see more attention.

Yeah, the source was too reliant on atmosphere, so that's all i could really do, in terms of MnP. Thanks for your comments anyways!
