I've messed around with levels and compression and stuff, and recorded a live vibes solo! Is the recording quality and stuff okay? I hope so :x

I have used a Hammond B3 organ for my lead sound as reccomended by someone (forgot who sorry!) in irc, Chavous' livekit and bass soundfonts that he reccomended, and a simple piano soundfont. I can't find for the life of me saxophone soundfonts. What else should i do on the production end? I tried to mess around with the saxophone GM sounds but that's not gonna get me far. Is it time to hammer the prophet of mephisto and hope he'll record for me?

Vibe solo coming soon :D

Put some soundfonts in there, it's starting to shape up

Yaay arrangement is done! At least I think. Any more arrangement ideas are welcome, i'm sure i'll continue to add stuff in as I go. Now to make these sounds better. Oh yeah, i replaced the lead with an organ, as someone reccomended. I think i like it better, but i'm not totally satisfied. Perhaps I'll just take the pitch bends out.

So my gf was over today and she said that she thought that the lead instrument sounded out of place--but only the lead. Any thoughts as to what to use? I was thinking of trying bowed vibes...?

Anyway, while i was in the shower i decided to completely revamp the solo section (which will still be live). I set up my vibes today and i'm psyched. :D Don't know when I'll record though, i should finish the arrangement first.

UPDATE: January 1, 2007

I've expanded the arrangement a bit, i need to end it soon. If you guys can reccomend some good soundfonts, that'd be great too. Specifically for the drumset, i need a good acoustic kit, relatively high tuning, that can be funky. I'm thinking about asking the prophet of mephisto to record saxes. And the vibraphone will be live.

Yay I got into something again!!!! What ima show you is this funky thing I'm working on of Mystic Cave Zone. I wanna play vibes in it too, like irl vibes :D It's all basic gm/midi sounds right now with a crappy midi solo recorded through my keyboard. and like half an arrangement.

hm....ok

Alright, you need a better bass guitar sample. Try this: http://www.yohng.com/bass.html That should be a bit funkier.

As for the drums, I'd recommend that "livekit7" I sent you a while ago, but you said it was too big for your computer to handle so I don't know there.

I'm not sure why, but I don't particularly like this one as opposed to your other one. This is just too static...everything is just there. I'm afraid I won't be much help on this one.

I really like how this is going so far.

The composition is real good, and the whole thing progresses well. Never gets too repetative. The new solo you put in is a lot nicer and keeps the piece fresh.

I think at 2:50 when the "Knuckles" drums kick in you could do more with it, either toss in some sounds or use another instrument. Also, while I like how the piece begins with the Cave melody, I think you could have faded it out in a different, more creative way.

Anyways it's sounding great as always. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to hear the final version.

I'm liking this version much better...the lead is less annoying, the bass is funkier (4front is amazing), the drums are also an improvement, but they can use a slight bit of compression (maybe for a "vintage" sound...) and reverb. Everything fits much better in this piece..now that everything else is better, it brings out some new problems. That piano is very thin, even for a background part. I have a suggestion for that though: use stereo imaging. Duplicate the track, everything, and pan one hard left, one hard right. That might give it a little boost.

As far as the saxes go...it seems like you have a lot of sax parts written, especially for one person to do. I have access to every standard sax (alto, tenor, bari) as well as a school recording studio, so if you needed to split the parts up between us, you can. But I know, this is the internet, so you only have my word on how well I play sax. If you need a sample of me playing every sax, I will gladly supply you with something.

Well, that's all I've got for now. Great job, this is coming along well.

Agreed on the bass needing to stand out more. Maybe boost the lower frequencies to bring it out a bit? I especially love the vibe parts. I can do without the pitch bends on the organ, at least to the extent that they're used. Maybe try to make them more subtle?
