The People's Remix Competition 423
PRCv18-04

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

In PRC421, two sources resulted in two participants and two bonus songs. It was TheVodouQueen who got the victory.

Source: Bomberman Hero OST (N64)
Composer(s): June Chikuma
Song: "Redial"

Blurb:

*Stretches* "After such a huge, complex, fairly serious tone presented in PRC 421, and the more somber take of PRC 422, I wanted to do something more...upbeat, a bit simplistic, but glorious and catchy to hear nonetheless. I had SO MANY choices going around in my head, though! Should I pick something from Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon? Or Shinobi III? Strider 2? Quest 64? Mischief Makers? Be a bit hammy (since it's nearly Valentine's Day) and do, like, "Candy's Music Shop" theme from Donkey Kong 64? The list was endless--but after having a lie back and listening to a certain OST, (and the remix of "Zip", one of my fave Bomberman songs on OCR,) my mind kept coming back to this--and I had to do it. I also saw that Super Bomberman was used a few times in PRC (and in MnP, Bomberman 64's "Green Gardens" theme was used as well), but was sad to see there was only the one OCR remix for Bomberman Hero and none anywhere else!

This priceless, underrated little gem of a 64 game / song needs some love, I believe. So let's put our thinking caps on, ladies and gents, and do something cool with the stylish Drum 'n Bass takings of 'Redial'.

Also, if someone can do up or find a way better MIDI source than this one, please say (the one I found is a bit lacking and weird to me, lol.)"

  • 2 weeks later...

@Souperion It's actually a normal level song. From my memory, it's one of the first songs you get to hear cause it's from like, level 2 or 3 of the first world, where it's basically a tutorial world. I know it and 'Zip' are like some of the first level songs.

I'm sorry to say guys, I was working on a bonus entry but I'm sitting this one out. I'd still like to finish what I started and I will probably post it here so people can listen and comment if they'd like, but I'd rather not rush it and do the song no justice. I got busy with other stuff and physically sick a few times over the last week or two, so my brain wasn't in creative mode it seems.

I'm glad for the big turn out tho and that people liked the round selection. Makes me very, very happy. ♡

I really look forward to voting now! :D

Also, I'll try to work more on my bonus entry and hopefully have something to show for it before the voting period is up. I'd also like to take a stab at this song cause it's real groovy. ;0

Welcome to the voting stage

The mixing stage is over. This round has songsThe following people compete against each other:

Bundeslang

Souperion

TheVideoGamer

Anachromium

To vote, do the following:

Visit http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC423 and listen to all the entries

Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen or click PM.

Fill in the entries from first to third in the ThaSauce form or fill in your top 3.

State a reasoning for it.

Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. They get a 3 point bonus, but they are not allowed to vote for their own track.

Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results.

If you vote by PM make sure that your top 3 is clear. I prefer something like this:

(Subject)

PRC ### Vote

(Message):

1: (remixer A )

2: (remixer B )

3: (remixer C )

Vote's in.

Sadly, still haven't finished my BONUS song...but after hearing what the contestants submitted, it kind of blew my idea out of the water and killed it. xD

I might try and keep at it over this week, but I have a feeling the original intent for it will change up to a different genre entirely.

Just need to figure out what to do... D:

It's results time.

Bundeslang got 5 points and gets the last place wooden spoon. Reversing the song doesn't mean the expected results are reversed.

Souperion has 8 points and gets fourth place.

Anachromium and Wassup Thunder both gathered 15 points, worth a second place.

And the winner of PRC422 is TheVideoGamer with 20 points.

TheVideoGamer you are the winner. You may pick a source for PRC425. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source as fast as you can, but before next Wednesday (31 March 2021), 11:00 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT).

You may select any source from any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links (I recently updated this site):

http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc

http://bambombim.googlepages.com/PRCRemixList.doc (also downloadable via the link above).

http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC423 for the votes and comments.

PRC424 already started:

Backward remixing (the source the other way around) was done before at Vgmix, but Kijee's Wily Power (Mega Man 3 - Wily Castle 2) was more a joke song (it was not a remix, but just the original backwards and some effects in it): it is still at http://vgmixarchive.com/. I also plan to make a 'Wily Power' version of that source.

So, do you reverse the MIDI or the audio to start the remix - or both? I'm a little curious about that workflow. (Never done actual remixing, only the type of rearranging you heard in these competitions.)

I used the MIDI in FL Studio and just changed the order.

I added an Image. The left is the original, the right is the reversed version, leaving the drums intact. Since this is a small source, I did it note by note (at some points I had to make some small corrections).
