The People's Remix Competition 462
PRCv20-03

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

In PRC460 it was TheVideoGamer who got the win after beating Hleet. The source has been picked. Starting this round already as I might not have time the upcoming days and PRC461 is closing in a couple of hours.

This round is located at:

https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC462

One important change in the rules is that from now on most of the source limitations are removed. The winner of this round still may pick the next source, he/she also may pick a source which already have songs at Ocremix. Also past PRC sources may be picked, except for the sources which are already picked in season 19 (last year). It still must be a Video Game source. So even Ice Cap is allowed for a PRC source from now on.

The deadline is Friday March 10th 2023 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the link https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC462 for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. +2 Days.

You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread.

Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread.

Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score.

The winner of this round may select the source for PRC464.

Everyone can enter. TheVideoGamer can enter only with a bonus song and has a vote which can break a tie.

You can find the full rules list at this page as well.

GOOD LUCK!

It's results time

TheVideoGamer submitted a bonus mix.

Hleet got 4 points and receives the last place wooden spoon.

And the winner of PRC462 is HarlemHeat360 and Ding888Ding with 5 points.

HarlemHeat360 and Ding888Ding, both of you are the winner of this round. Both of ou may pick a source for PRC464. Send the new source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source before Wednesday 22 March 2023, 11:00 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT).

You may select any source from any game. From now on, it can also be a source with one or more OverClocked remix(es) or a source which has been used in PRC before. Only sources which are used in PRC season 19 (PRC439 or more recent) are not allowed. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links (I will update this list soon):

http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc

A list is also available at https://compo.thasauce.net/compos/view/PRC

I forgot to give feedback to this, i'd better do it now. Here's some thoughts about each track, i'll try and keep it on the brief side:

HarlemHeat360 - Really digging the string work in this, makes it quite bouncy and cute. Great use of the electric piano, really makes it very funky. The drums are a bit on the quiet side, almost in the background. The timpani hits aren't utilized in here, but that's fine. I dig how you develop it though, the drums really up it's game in the second instance of the main melody, so my comments become a little redundant. The guitar is crazy in this, the harmonics and glide notes are insane, did you play this? The mixing could be finessed here, some moments were quite loud or quiet, but that's to taste. All in all, this was hugely chaotic and fun, definately made me smile, congrats on your win! Well done!

Ding888Ding - Damn this is full on Happy Hardcore. The kick is quite powerful, almost drowns out the rest of the instruments lol. The melody is cute as always, but then again this is the original piece talking. I dig the fills in this, and the structure, it enhances from a simple chord progression into a full DDR madness, it's really great. The melody does take a while to get in, but when it does, it's super satisfying. I dig how it fits in the fast Happy Hardcore vibes. It's a shame you don't utilise the rest of the piece, it can make it a little repetitive as a result, and a little under developed. The problem for me, is when a new section comes in, you take a while to develop it before it blooms, so it sounds like your stretching it a bit to maximise 3 minutes of music. Still though the whole thing was banging. Yeah the kick is a little powerful, perhaps on the loud side, but it still didn't diminish the whole fast and goofy fun this piece is providing, great sounds and melodies, well done!

Hleet - Honestly listening to this, the volume is perfect, i don't see the need to make it any louder, especially as sometimes that can induce a bit of unwarranted clipping that you might not need. Whilst your rhythm is lovely here, it prefer the original rhythm in my opinion, as it had different fills and a half time and double time part that really amplifies a bit of the sort of eccentric nature of this piece. The rhythm in this is very repetitive, looping a single1-2 bar of something. The melodies are super pretty here though, great choice of synth and drum sounds. To make this stand out, i would add an ending, instead of it just stopping, and maybe keep the rhythm of the original, to avoid it sounding a bit...wonky. Still though i loved this, and it had a lot of lovely moments, you did great! Well done!

I'll try and remember to keep on top of voting you guys! It's becoming hard, because there's only really been 2 entries total in most PRC, and i usually account for one of them, so voting has really become redundant, but if there is a few, i'll try and get a few words in. Well done all! See you next round!

If anyone has a suggestion for the source of next round (464) feel free to post it in this thread. Depending on what comes I might pick it as the source for next round.

Didn't have a source yet and I already picked a source for PRC463 myself.

I'd say anything from the Pulseman ost. Here are a few favourites that i like:

Showdown 2:

Port 1:

Metamorphoser:

Boot Sequence:

Integrated City:

I apologise for all the videos, but i'm having trouble choosing one right now.

Thanks. I cannot find a MIDI from these songs but for next round I will allow the entire Gaiares game. Any source from that game will be allowed. I see some MIDI's at Vgmusic or other sites but none from Mission 2.

The Pulseman OST will be saved for later.

That's ok i can make the MIDI's for them. I'm ok if you choose to go with the Gaiares games. That's fine.
