Being a big fan of the original Shadow of the Beast in game music, I was looking forward to hearing this. Having done so several times, I'm not sure how to feel.

The work behind this piece shows, of that there is no question. But, I don't recognize... anything, of any songs from the original game here. I' m wondering if maybe this song from from SotB II, as there is a song in that game that I could see this being a remix of (namely, the beginning sections of the title screen song). But, that may just be my inability to recognize the original song in this remix.

I also didn't find the style to my liking. I just couldn't get into the song as nothing really gave me the feeling that this song was moving forward and developing. Again, it's not from the lack of work on this song as it definitely reflects a lot time being taken to make it. It just didn't strike a chord with me... no pun intended :(

No no...this is SotB1...its just the amiga version, which had a more simplistic and all round weaker soundtrack to the C64 and Genesis versions.

While the c64/genesis soundtrack was heavilly based on melody, the amiga/cpc versions were more kinda...ambient white noise, kinda soundtracks.

I recognise it, certainly...and I quite like it.

Being very minimalist I cant really give much on it...though I can say Im not too keen on the crackling that you have before and after the music...no, I dont like that at all, sorry :(

You cant really dance to it...and I also find that you cant especially sit down and listen to it like you can with some other tracks. Study music is what this is...that or something to be used in a haunted house (I swear Ive heard something like this played in alton towers)

Deep.

Anything you could want from a ambient track and more, this one really brings the goods. Each element of this, whether it be the drums, pads, or synth melody line has a nice sheen of polish, and each has been perfectly reverbed, creating a super spacious sound.

This sounds especially good on headphones. Recommended. :D

Alright, I'm starting to feel extra bad for Mutagene here. This is the third of his mixes that don't seem to have jack for reviews that I've reviewed in the past few days.

It also has some very neat sections going. The bass drum is contrasting against the little synth sounds, the straight drum loop keeps the tempo going, and the miscellaneous percussion provides nice background. All of it flowing aroud this kind of eerie background melody that sinks into the skull real nice.

I liked what was going on in the mix, but the popping noise throughout bugged me a bit. Not sure if it was meant to sound like a record player, but for some reason it felt like my ears were popping throughout the entire song. Seen others on OCR use a louder record-like popping sound at the intro and have it fade away as the song progresses, but this one has a softer sound that persists throughout. Not sure what its meant to establish, but was interesting.

This is a pure background ReMix, which is great for having when doing other things and don't really want to have too much going on. I wasn't fond of the popping effects either, but this ReMix does what it sets out to do and I really can't fault it for that. Not my thing, but a decent listen for sure.
