Liontamer ⚖️ Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Original Decision Artist Name: tibonev List of changes: - tried my best to reduce the amp sim noise, applied some subtractive eq (ReaFIR) and changed output levels on the amp sim itself, changed the noise gate settings aswell. - changed the sharp attack on the synth lead, made it stereo and added some chorus to it, to make it wider and softer. - added a new instrument, another synth line, playing a "broken" arpeggio in some parts, to add ear candy and some more dynamics. - added / recorded a new guitar line, its an original phrase not present in either of the sources, to add ear candy and dynamic movement. - rebalanced some of the instruments (like the loud rythym guitar at the final part / climax) - changed a couple of reverb settings to make it all gel togheter better. - shortened the end part a bit, with a faster fadeout. breakdown: 00:00 - 00:35 - original part based on msfs2020 chords, added some new guitar notes and partial arpeggioos. 00:35 - 00:52 - pilotwing chords with a new guitar phrase/line under it and arp riff 00:52 - 01:01 - original transition 01:01 - 01:36 - msfs2020 melody part A 01:36 - 01:45 - original transition based on the part A chords. 01:45 - 02:11 - pilotwings melody 02:11 - 02:46 - msfs2020 melody part B 02:46 - 03:22 - msfs2020 chords / with original radar ping over it. 03:22 - 03:35 - original part based on msfs2020 chords, this also have a new guitar line also playing. 03:35 - 03:48 - long fade out of last ringing chord. prophetik music ⚖️ Posted July 3 Posted July 3 my original vote loved the concept, but had issues with several elements including amp sim noise and synth attacks. still really like the opening pads and swells alongside the delayed plucked tones. the kalimba elements are really nice. at 0:35 there is a distinct shelf with a lot of pressure in the low mids, around 200hz, and that was unexpected. the guitar sounds a lot better and no longer has the amp tone that was so distracting. the sixteenths that come in around 1:15 are so good - i love how they're able to fade in so carefully and never get too big. backing synths at 1:36 are much more tame without losing their attack entirely, so that's nice. 2:11's more constrained as well, and we can still hear the bass movement that was so interesting in the msfs track. from there, it's a smooth flight out to the ending. the last fade's been trimmed which i think is a good choice. this improved a lot since the last take. the new additions to help flesh out the arrangement are welcome, and i think that taming down some of the edges on the synths is a huge positive. i think this one arrived at the destination just fine. Hemophiliac ⚖️ Posted July 3 Posted July 3 I really enjoyed this the first time around despite feeling under-developed and not fully realized. This has completed the rest of the pie and is a fully fleshed out idea now. The over sound design is still really nice and the atmosphere is a sunny but cloudless sky. The changes that were made in regards to design were welcome and smoothed this out. I still have no issues with the source usage as it's there, just a little difficult to pick out on the first run. 1:20 there's some new (IIRC) soft and subtle guitar added here that really adds some momentum and picks up the energy without getting too big. Dynamically, this takes us on a journey with a long crescendo throughout the whole piece as textures build and the dynamic level increases. Perfectly ambient and expressive without needing any percussion. Synths evolve and change with time and the guitar with delay keeps us anchored to the wings. Love the changes so much, I'm really glad you worked on this more and resubmitted it. Great work. YES
pixelseph ⚖️ Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Didn't get a chance to listen to this one the first time around on the panel, but I definitely remember it from last year's DoD Franchise Fusion. I recall it being super chill with a bit of hiss in the recording that I didn't mind. And it's still chill and reflective now! The chords and reverb have a sort of expectancy to them that captures traveling by plane, at least for me - that low-end presence that can be calming or distressing depending on the turbulence. The guitar and kalimba do a great job here, supporting that ambiguity and just creating a mood. Both tracks are represented here - I think it leans more Flight Simulator than Pilotwings, but the PW melody is stronger than MSFS - so source usage isn't an issue. I just know there's a no-percussion / chilled-out / travel-time 8Tracks playlist begging for this one on it! YES
