As for what's wrong with me, I like to get an adrenaline kick from my music. I actually like to listen to X soundtracks while playing other games mostly fps's like unreal-quake. Occasionally for games like Civilization I use music from various RPGs, including Chrono Trigger, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, and a handful of others. Can't really help you with adding a new soundtrack to X. Sorry. My roommate here at college, on the other hand, likes to use his various assortments of metal (Fintroll, for example) while he plays games like Dead Rising or Burnout. Dunno if metal's your thing, but there are so many sub-genres of metal that you might find something appropriate that you like. And I love Super Smash Bros. music (Probably one of my favorite soundtracks of all), because they're almost always reinterpretations by the actual composers, which is kickass in it's own right. I usually do listen to other music when I play FPSes, and MMO(RPG)s. I don't have any specific playlists, per se, I just listen to my whole library on shuffle. Also, I'll agree that star ocean and xenosaga both have great soundtracks, though I haven't played either. I'd suggest the Tales games as well if you like those. Also can't forget Chrono Cross (best opening I've ever heard, that violin in the background ROCKS). If anyone knows of anything similar to SSH please post.
