Unreal Tournament 3 demo

First of all, the game is fucking awesome and every inch as good as I hoped it would be, a rare occurance for games that are really hyped. It looks great, it runs great, and has that fast and tough feel from the first UT that went missing in the later installments.

As I expected they did an excellent job on optimizing it for lesser machines. I tried running it on my shitty laptop with the lowest settings, I get a very steady and comfortable FPS and it doesn't look horrible.

I'm really enjoying the demo so far. Its a lot more intense and hectic than 2004 and Classic. The weapons are awsome. Using the hover board is pretty fun too. I'm not a fan of the art style though. The lighting is a bit overdone for my tastes. The special effects and particals are awsome though.

Hey Gecko, do you mind me asking what your specs on your laptop are. My computer is starting to age and I was just wondering if I may be able to run it. In fact, part of the reason I was kind of sliding on playing UT3 was because I was worried my specs wouldn't be up to snuff.

Sadly, it looks like I don't get to play this. I get three "UT3 must close" errors every time I start it. The furthest I've gotten is two minutes of play time before it crashed. Otherwise, I rarely ever make it past the title screen. I've tried the -nosound addition to the shortcut, I've reinstalled it three times, and I even made sure my drivers are the newest ones out there. All this, after one pathetic download rate attempt, and being kicked out of the download line three times on Fileplanet.

In short, "Demo no like me" :-(

I hate you all.

I downloaded the file, and went to install it. It kept giving me an error: 1628, unable to install program.

It seems that the beta doesn't work with certain versions of Windows, and I can only hope that they are Microsoft's lapdogs and don't make it Vista compatible only.

Come on, guys. Make it for XP64 as well.

I can't fucking stand the pacing of this UT, and I've played them all since Unreal 1 (yes, I'm a penultimate fanboi).

Now the game is so frenetic that you can't formulate strategy, you can't adapt, you can't improvise. All you can do is go heavy on the trigger and bunny hop like a counterstrike sugar-rush. The pace practically eliminates the personality of the weapons, since just about anything will kill you in 5 hits.

The decision to ramp up the speed by 200% have been, in my well-informed opinion, disastrous.

Also, Midway did work on a kick-ass UI design, which Epic summarily threw out the window at some unknown juncture, and went with the mental-abortion you see when you start the game.

Nigga, I'm pissed off a little bit!

Playing Dead is a crap load of fun. I've gotten out a bunch of sticky situations by playing dead. My brother was even able to destory a walker by playing dead until the thing walked right above him. He then nailed it with rocket. Playing dead doesn't work agianst the AI though. They rarely ever fall for it.

I didn't realize you could do this. Though you could actually do it in the original Unreal, they stopped I guess! I didn't realize you could do it in this game until I saw another person doing it. Then I killed them.

I make sure they gib before I move on :<

So far, I'm unimpressed -- fewer weapons available than UT99, and I have to put the graphics so low that UT2K4 on max settings (which my comp can handle fine) the older game looks better.

Upgrade.

The game looks great and runs smooth, and I don't have a killer rig either. The only thing I don't like is how the bots seem to 99% of the time single you out, even if there's closer, more pertinent targets for them.

Still, it's technically a beta, so I'm hoping for a more fine tuned real demo in the future.
