Kirby Super Star 'Floating Islands of Grand Beach Manitoba'

Wow. That's all I can after listening to this mix. This is the song for grooving. The parts that really stand out for me are when the ReMix gets all atmospheric as heard at 0:46 and 2:27. On the other hand, I really don't like the piano at 1:32. Though, I do like the transition into the piano :) The total break in the music at 1:53 does something for me deep inside, but I don't know what. Kind of reminds me of parties where the music stops and everyone gets quiet. Regardless, everything else makes up for it. I really love how this arranged - Not to mention that it's Kirby Super Star! Such a happy exotic tropical dance ReMix. Like I said before, it does make you want to groove. :)

Nice arrangement. Terrible recording.

EVERYTHING is clipping. D, listen to the crunch in the mix - that's not normal. It's clipping. The audio has gone over 0.0 and is causing distortion of the sound.

Bring the levels of recording down. The guitar is too loud. Get a nice, clean sound (listen to some jazz albums - Wes Montgomery, for sure) to hear a great jazz guitar sound. The drum loops is just too loud.

What are you using to piece all of this together? There should be meters in any decent program that shows you how loud the outcoming audio is for each track. Should go green - (maybe yellow) - red - PEAK. It's good to get your levels in the red - makes for a good recording, but if you peak - it's useless - the audio has distorted. Bring it down.

Then there's the master levels - make sure that you are mixing your audio properly. You'll have to pull down ALL of your tracks and adjust the volume to make sure that the master output doesn't go above 0.0 - otherwise you have what you hear in this track at 0:15 - distortion.

Nice arrangement - get a better recording of it. You'll have to record that guitar again, too :(

Keep at it.

Well, i don't know what all the fuss is. I guess i'm just a too casual listener to catch the bad recording quality and such. I really like the remix a lot. I was surprised by this guy because i never heard of his recordings.

but now, i think i can sense the bad recording quality ... i hate you guys, it WAS perfect for me, oh well, it doesn't bother me much n-e ways. hee hee

well thanks "Double A Ron" for this great mix!

Arggh! What's with the mixes of tunes from the first gameboy Kirby game ending up under Kirby's Superstar?? Yes, the music was present in Kirby's Superstar, but the exact same tune was in the original Kirby.

I didn't hear anything off until Mustin said something. That being said, the clipping in the guitar is pretty bad. But my first mix was MUCH MUCH worse than this with clipping, so I'm a little lenient when it comes to those types of issues. The drumloop is too loud, and it's pretty much a generic techno one, which annoys me. Still, this is a well arranged remix. There are parts where the original melody seems to not be present, but maybe I'm imagining things. Good techno, good Kirby coverage. Work on the technical issues Mustin mentioned, Double A Ron, and you'll be just fine.

Thanks for the reviews. I don't know what went wrong, but I have done alot of equalizing, keyboarding, analog recording using cassettes, and mixing for this song. My meters in Magix Music Maker v7 never made it past yellow when I tested it. Maybe it was just the last step of amplification after I manually recorded it with Audicity. I should have input a lower peak aplitude in the options menu.

If you want to hear one of my first recordings in Toronto in my uncle's homemade studio, click on the Aaron Comica Theme on this page:

Go easy on the reviews. To me, ACT is my ultimate master piece.

Again thanks for the reviews,

Double A Ron Parsons

PS Next project: A rap piece featuring the Dynablade Teme Castle Level.

Man, this is an awsome mix! As a fan of house music, I personally think the slight clipping adds to this mix... Kinda makes it sound like a sample of an old record, which is a good thing. Either way, I really love this song. I might be biased because I really like house, and I like upbeat game music, but hell, you did an excellent job. Nice break, love the beat (especially the house bongos/congas)... And don't worry about any negative comments (Mustin the Jerkaholic likes to focus on the negative to tout his apparently superior skills... don't worry about him), this is an extremely solid mix, one of the best on here in a while. As you said, "ultimate master piece"!!

Why didn't I say anything when this thing first came up? This is, as Mustin said, a very good arrangement, and I'll leave it at that! The guitar has a...fakeness.. to it, but I like it! I would like an alternate version with a better guitar, just so I could decide which I liked better....

Or listen to both!

Keep it up!

This mix can speak for itself. Ooh Ooh, Oh Yeah! Nice tempo, just what you'd expect in a Kirby game! I loved this game to no end, so the music really appeals to me. Anyway, sounds just like what you might hear on some coastline somewhere in the US. I dunno how to describe it, except that you need to get it.

Or Grand Beach in Manitoba in a lake in the centre off North America! WOOOO! BTW, they say Grand Beach has the hottest girls on the planet, and the softest of sand (on the planet). Well, that would also explain why Manitoba also has the highest unwanted pregnancy rate in Canada.

Whatever, this area should be for Double A's (that's me) or shall I say, my reviews only so I'll just stop wasting space.

Bye!

Oh yeah, next review is below you......are you shocked at what I just said?

oddly enough I agree with mustin that sometimes its a little loud. Specifically when the piano kicks in...and actually, the entie track from then on.

The drumloop does begin to grind after a while, but then there's so much going on in the track that you dont really notice it.

Listening to it again, I think the drumloop is sometimes too loud...that it stands out too much over all the other stuff, specifically the guitar chords.

Pretty good...

Good to dance to at beach parties and such, so I recommend it to all ^_^

We need MORE of these!

Kirby is waaay underrated and should be remixed as lot as Final Fantasy.. almost

anyways, I like the mix a lot!

One thing that bothers me though is that everything seems to "mush-up" in a not-so-nice-ish way when the piano comes in.

Maybe the drums are a bit to loud to.

otherwise this remix is GREAT! I mean GREAT-ish!

good

Wow I love this tune and do you know what makes it even more special, I got a Cabin at Grand Beach.

I was looking for some awesome remixes and saw, "(Floating Island of)Grand Beach Manitoba" and I was like Hey I have a cabin there, I should Download it! You know what, to me it sounds like what a remix should. The tune actualy has a good feeling of how the beach feels, except when its busy and I am working at the consesions. Realy it sounds like a good days work, I think whoever made this captured the esscence of Grand Beach. Well to me anyways.

I actually liked this. Loved the set-up, keeps the melody and chords true to the source.

But you know what would have been cool? If you had added on the beach music from the other games in Superstar. (Namely, Sir Metakight's Revenge) If you notice, both original sources have the same kind of percussion beat. And meTHINKS they're in the same key, allowing for a smooth segway.

But nice work! The Floating Islands track has been one of my faves ever since Kirby's Dreamland for the GameBoy back in 19-who-knows-when... Halken has also done a great job of re-releasing the track in different games in different re-mixes... (Kirby's Dreamcourse, Kirby Superstar, Kirby's Dreamland 2, etc...)

When looking for remixes to put on CDs for my parents as xmas gifts, I came across this one. Instant addition. Rhythm, melody, sound, everything works together wonderfully. Bass totally rocks, especially on high volumes. :D Haven't heard any special comments about it from my folks, but _I_ like this a lot! Relaxing, positive and cool, it's all it needs to be. OCR needs more stuff like this.

some light clipping on my earbuds- i'd be really nervous to hear this on my home setup. :/

Arrangementwise, this is really fun, with some well chosen sounds and a good progression, complete with good transitions, though unfortunately not complete with a good ending. I appreciate the token root chord, but there's no lead up to it at all. I'm guessing you had just had enough with this one and wanted to move on to your next mix. :-)

Still a peppy and fun mix, and it'll sound good on your ipod. :-)

The obsessive-compulsive, anal-retentive in me screams in frustration that this is labelled as Kirby Super Star when it's a Dream Land song. I know it's just a label, but it's akin to labelling the Mario theme as coming from Super Smash Bros. It just isn't accurate, and that gets to me a little.

As for the mix, there were things I enjoyed and things I didnt. I didn't enjoy the clipping, as it's a pretty prominent issue and once you hear it, you can't unhear it. I also get a sense that the mix sounds a little too thin or spacious. There's obviously some intent behind that, evident from the large gaps and the portion of silence. However, I don't think it does the arrangement or the structure many favours by having so much white-space on the canvas. Luckily, there are a lot of bits and pieces that work in this mix's favour. I love the little vocal at the beginning, and I like most of the intruments chosen. Things mesh accordingly, but like I said, the soundscape is very wishwashy and thin to what I'm used to hearing.

As good as the arrangement and ideas are, some glaring issues (as well as some of my own deep-seeded ones) get in the way with this one. Still not too bad, considering.

Nice soundscape here to start things out. It seems like A Ron was going for a specific sound and was able to achieve it. Hearing some distortion/clipping from that beat, so be careful to keep the levels in check. Some of the changeups and transitions sounded a bit clumsy or unfinished. The beat fading in and out at places like 1:37 & 1:53 or the transition at 1:15 specifically. Overall, though, it's a nice listen with a happy feel to it.
