Battletoads & Double Dragon 'Enter the Toad'

The drums and some other instruments sound somewhat muffled at the beginning, and I'm thinking that this was intended. Otherwise, the guitar, scratch, and synths are all amazing. djpretzel made reference to AC/DC, and I would absolutely have to agree that it it could very easily be mistaken. All I can say about the wicked tunes here is "wow." If you like electric guitars, do not hesitate to download this. Excellent work, Jivemaster.

Crazy beginning, I thought I was in for a totally different ride.

After the mania is over, we bust into some sweet guitar that I would not liken quite to AC/DC so much as the Dire Straits. That's slightly what the rift reminds me of too. Good selection for right/left channels with that guitar though. Then there's a sound effect like someone whipping something kinda? Eh well, it's all good, and has a sorta cool 80's feel to it.

Hey guys, thought I'd add my composer's view to the whole thing.

Yeah the muffled intro was intended - I was trying to somehow make some cheesy music which a lot of Kung-fu licks contain. The intro part wasn't really much to do with the original song at all, it was something I started working on which didn't meld with the rest, so I thought I'd just make it separate. It made the mix a bit longer too, and kept people thinking, which is always good :)

The main part of the mix was going to have a lot more in it. The song itself had been sitting on my HD for months, and I was intending to add lead and what not to the song, but in the end, I just couldn't have been bothered... which is a little sad obviously, it could have made everything a lot better. Although, to be truthful, I suppose the song was short enough that it didn't really need it.

Overall I was quite happy with the outcome, and I was happy to have done a more obscure song which probably would have never been done.

Cool stuff, gotta dig those guitar strings! the intro piece is quite cool too! especially the percussion drum and laser effects. And for the actual theme...? well, it's great guitar work, but it seems to just tease us with the starting of the theme, but you could've added in just a bit to give one full loop of the 1st stage music (cause i believe the tunes starting are similar) . But still, it's a worthy Download for sure!

(also, this was the LAST good DoubleDragon game worthy of the Double Dragon name! IMHO)

Unless Super Double Dragon came out after it, that was the last Double Dragon game. And Super Double Dragon was a lot better than BattleToads and Double Dragon IMHO. Anyways, the opening is... different. I like it! Very cheesy! Erm, wait cheesy isn't a compliment. But that's what Jivemaster was aiming for, so, if he got done what he wanted, than he did good. Right? Ack! My brain! Well, the actual song is very 80's rockish. Personally, the melody seems to be lacking something. It's repetitive and not very dynamic. Very 80's rockish! I did like the synth solo in the middle though. So I give props to Jivemaster for taking a song that wasn't too great to begin with and making it listenable.

Another older-school short and sweet mix, this is one of the few games where having a intro and body of a song being so seperate works in it's favor thematically.

I'd have preferred a smoother transition, perhaps a crossfade or some texture back-and-forth, with a synth vs. guitar call and response.

The drum patterns are interesting, and thogh the lack of a main melody makes the song feel a bit empty, it's entertaining enough.

Overall I'm not crazy about this mix. Having an entirely different intro can work, but this just feels like two seperate songs put together. I would have liked a tie-in between the two.

I found the track repetative, which isn't a good thing for such a short mix. The guitar riffs are good, but done over and over and over. The lack of variation drags it down.

The first part is just... not ugly. Once the guitars come in it feels like you're listening to an entirely different remix. There's no transition between the two.

Also when the guitars start playing they sound very nice, but unfortunately they don't play the theme right at all. The drums are also going crazy for no apparent reason, the mix would have been much better if they'd just played the same as the original. I still prefer listening to the spc over this. But kudos for covering the theme. (I really don't remember the first part of the mix from anywhere in the game though)

I remember back when this mix was posted! I was going through some bad times...

...But I also remember not being a huge fan of this particular mix. One thing I really felt could've used some work was with the guitar playing. There could've been more variation to keep things interesting. In addition, the transition from the intro to the main part of the mix sounded a bit contrived in that there is no real connection between the two parts, and there's no real attempt to reconcile that.

I remember being fond of Jivemaster's work back in the day, though knew him moreso for doing upbeat electronica, so I guess I was surprised to see him go into a rock-driven edge.

Here we got something quite quirky here, strangely artistic due to the clashing intro/rest-of-the-song and significant lack of melody (might be down to the source), but with what's been placed in production-wise (like with the flanging wahs every now and again) had managed to give in a good lift for its time.

In comparison to even his earlier material it doesn't seem to have that punch or memorability factor to it in regards to concept, but it's still kind of okay if not a little stale.
