A couple things I wanna mention...

First of all, season 2 of Code Geass has begun. This is great news since it left off on an insane cliff hanger at the end of season 1 that drove everyone CRAZY (or maybe just me). If you've never heard of Code Geass then I can say it's like Death Note except with mechs (it's good, you should check it out).

Second, I saw Midori no Hibi recently and it had me teary-eyed by the final episode, which doesn't happen often, so I can say it was good. It's your typical "girl likes guy but has trouble revealing her feelings" anime but with an interesting twist. It's also worth checking out.

And that is all.

I say it's LIKE Death Note because it's a good psychological anime. And I said "mechs" because there are a lot of them, but the anime doesn't focus on them too heavily like Gundam does, it'd be more accurate to say "set in a futuristic setting." So it's a good psychological anime that is set in a futuristic setting. THERE!

I get what you're trying to say but psychological? Not really. If anything, the underlying themes are there for those who want to explore and talk about them. Just like Death Note, it's mainly for the entertainment value - "the thrill ride" I suppose you would call it - that I see many people watch such shows for rather than talk of such issues, even if they are present day problems we're still trying to find an answer to. Well, many more questions rather really.. But it is indeed there. Just not on the level of Mushishi, which is blatantly there for you to wonder about since it's presented in such a way.

To each their own. If there was anything I hated about episode 1, while I do love the fanservice for Kallen (Karen, however it's spelled), I hope it's done in good taste rather than overly done.

I don't think Geass is psychological as it is philosophical. There are a lot of Macbethian themes in the show including a lot of Nordic references and lore. Then there's the distinct philosophical difference between LeLouch and Suzaku on how they're handling being taken over by a much superior empire.

Also, Clamp only designed the clothing a bit it but the actual character designer did action anime works before that, and I think he knows how to do great looking designs without making it look super-shoujo (girls' anime) like Clamp always does.

And isn't it THE hottest shit though? I think the astronomical download numbers and hype basically proves it (that and the ever present criticism for the show, which I think is basically overthinking the show as much mecha criticism is. Mecha is not supposed to be realistic to begin with..)

As for the first episode, though the action was pretty cool, they never got around to explaining anything yet. Most likely, the next few episodes should show how LeLouch was captured and brainwashed.

I feel like Code Geass shares some spiritual similarities with Death Note in that both the main characters have a magic ability that basically lets them rise to positions of power and/or leadership and that both of the characters are of the darker sort (Light is outright bad, Lelouch is certainly arrogant and ruthless enough at times to qualify as bad). Where Code Geass outshines Death Note is that the main characters in Code Geass are well rounded, whereas in the first episode of Death Note, Light became a crazy guy with a God complex without explanation and that was it for his character development. I hope Lelouch ends up being just evil, but it really won't be certain until the show is all said and done. Depending on how Code Geass goes it will probably replace Gundam SEED as my favorite anime. I like the politics, action, and heroics that mecha often provides, what can I say.

My apartments mates and I went out and got some Pizza Hut pizzas last night, and sat down to enjoy a baffling, but ultimately awesome episode of the new season. If Lelouch were real, I'd follow him to the death.

What annoys me about the way they started it out was that it was basically a "reboot" of sorts, instead of continuing shortly where they left off. I mean when did Suzaku suddenly start convening with the emperor of Britannia?

Why does Lelouch automatically have a brother and is now some kind of amnesiac(they'll probably run the same thing they did for Death Note, I.E. he planned it)?

Where is Nunally?

Why the hell did they let Orange Range do the opening AND ending themes(note: I like some of Orange Range, but they don't really mix well with an anime like Code Geass IMO)?

I mean duh, of course they're gonna explain it all throughout the next couple of episodes(well, except the Orange Range part), but it just seems like a trick to fill in holes. I don't like it.

I DID however like how they showed how damned evil the Britannian people could be. Especially certain parts like when Kallen was about to be traded off with the other girls as part of that casino game deal among other things. I definitely like the feeling of overall desperation going on throughout. Here's to them keeping it.

Also Injin, Code Geass aside, you should know better than most that numbers don't equal quality.

I think the mystery works for Geass personally. Hopefully they will get around to explaining all of it soon. Also, the Emperor seems apt to playing a lot of mind games with his son, so I think there's a lot of conspiracy going on beyond the Black Knights. I'm just glad to see that the staff working on Geass is willing to do all these radical ideas, throwing caution to the wind quite literally. I can acknowledge that some people won't like them and some will. I'm cautiously optimistic, but just about everything that director Taniguchi Goro works on ends up being fun to watch.

I disagree with the OP. The OP was great IMO. The ED, though, was simply forgettable. The Ali Project (The first ED) was much better, even if musically it does sound...crazy.

Yeah, I think they needed to show more of the oppressive side of it and it was pretty strange seeing Kallen like that. The most macho of women in the Geass world and to see her get subjugated.

I know, that's why I quantified Geass' success almost with its infamy and criticisms just the same. I still think the show is finally a well deserved hit for Taniguchi Goro, though objectively, I thought Gun X Sword was the tighter-run ship, but that show never took off with the viewers. I know Geass could have catered more towards more conventional and better exposition and make it less open to criticism, but I think the way it divides the viewers (like the old Suzaku/Lelouch thing. I actually side with Suzaku, traitor or not) is one of the show's charms. I can fully accept people even hating the show. I just love that bold direction the show has, at least in how it's presented.

So the 2nd season of Code Geass does a little future jump? Don't worry, that's a common storytelling technique that I have forgotten what it is called. They will probably explain the situation in the next episode. Probably.

It's not a real future jump though. The plot probably advanced about a month at the most, if not shorter. Just a lot of brainwashing involved.

Well I can definitely agree with the boldness of Code Geass, and I'm actually glad that it's willing to go that far. I mean the whole depiction of Britannians as brutal assholes made me think "shit dood". And I do like the series, but I think the convoluted ending to the first season left me somewhat annoyed.

The problem I had with the first episode of this season was that it seemed to suffer from "sequelitis" in it's presentation. Yeah, it was cool, but it seemed off somehow... I dunno. I'm still gonna watch it though. As far as themes for the show, my favorites were Colors and Mosaic Kakera.

Me thinks you might not be looking hard enough. I find plenty of anime related stuff all over the place. Then again, I live in the middle of Nagoya. I've no idea how easy it is to find stuff outside of the major cities.

Unfortunatly, I live in the northern part of Japan (above Sendai, but below Sapporo), and there are very few anime specialty stores around here. I did however find anawesome store with boxed copies of Chrono Trigger, FF4-6, Dragon Quest 5, and a Neo Geo CD.

And about 8 stories down.

The bottem 8 floors were just vast row of porn arcade games.

And a single Super Mario Bros Vs. cabinet.
