Well, we had not one but two same-instrument ensembles last week, and now we're gonna mix it up with... a brass quartet! Two trumpets & two trombones stage a street fight brass-off between Ryu & Guile as Leandro Abreu (of Abreu Project) arranges SF2 for his brass-playing friends:

"Arranjo dos temas do Ryu e Guile, para quarteto de metais. I wrote the brass arrangement and some friends played it for me, and I recorded it. It's not a typical arrangement, but maybe you might like it. It was a little variation of Ryu's theme with Guile, of classic Street Fighter II. It's a hard thing to mix, but for me it's okay. Let me know if you like. ;)"

  • Leandro Abreu - Arranjo
  • Marco Lima - Trompete
  • Pablo Ávila - Trompete
  • João Paulo - Trombone Tenor
  • André Pastore - Trombone Baixo

These are classic themes, and they're easy to spot since the arrangement is relatively conservative, but it's certainly a fun & spunky concept, and as a former low brass player myself (euphonium), it brought a smile to my face. Liontamer breaks it down & sums it up:

"This was a fun arrangement style that we haven't heard on OCR before, strictly for brass quartet. You've got to show love to Marco, Pablo, João, and André here, as the trumpet and trombone performances were tight, forceful, and seamless. Props also for using an original section after Ryu's theme at 1:49 and the later dropoff to segue to Guile's theme; the pause was a bit long, but the track then quickly got back into the swing of things. This is melodically straightforward, yet there's excellent original supporting writing behind the melodies to spice up each character theme and lend a different presentation style to compliment the slower tempo and lack of percussion. As advertised, you have the one-two punch of classic SF2 themes along with the ending shot of the in-game jingle you always hear after the fight is over. Who do YOU think won the battle? The title implies no one, but thanks to Leandro and his Abreu Project collaborators, I'd argue we ALL have. (Awwwwww!)"

Oji gettin' cheesy in his old age; welcome to the club. As well-groomed & meticulously-uniformed as Guile is, I'mma give it to Ryu, since I have shoto-bias anyways. Either way, we do indeed all win - a creative, brasstastic take on some iconic SF2 melodies!

This is just pure fun and I love hearing instrumental songs with a special focus on certain classes. Though usually I hear strings or woodwinds get this kind of focus, brass is cool as well. Quite liked this.
