Hey yooouuuuu guuuyyyysssssss..... Vurez (Don Muritz) returns after seven years with a fun, upbeat rock take on The Goonies (NES):

"Hello, it's been a LONG time. Earlier in the year, I posted this in the WIP forum and David suggested that I submit it, but I didn't get around to it until now. I almost forgot about it!

The track is the alternate level theme (levels 2 & 4) from Goonies (NES/Famicom).

I was going for a bit of an '80s rock sound with D-50 synths and chorus guitar."

The peppy tempo & general groove give this a vague ska vibe, while the agile pan flute-style lead lends some 80's fusion to the mix. It's fun, energized, & happy - a veritable treasure trove of riches, with nary a booty trap to be found. A good thing, too - if Don had played the wrong note, we'd ALL be flat. Also: Pinchers of Power. Couldn't work it in, just wanted to write it anyways. And fifty dollah bill, too. Larry "Liontamer" Oji never says die:

"Great to see Don back in action with something light and upbeat (not unlike "Touchdown Hoedown", which I hope y'all listened to during the Super Bowl yesterday)! The source tune for this one's hilarious from a VGM nerd's perspective, since it's by Castlevania's Satoe Terashima and basically is a "Vampire Killer" sound-alike. It's already a peppy song, and Vurez does a great job fleshing out the sound with bright instrumentation; props to the guitar work too, which was understated but provided good original writing additions that complimented the source arrangement perfectly. :-) Also loved the chorus bassline being retained throughout the track including during some soloing areas to keep the track grounded in the source tune. The bells at 2:43 were a surprising instrument selection, but clicked nicely. Really cool song choice here and it's good to see more Goonies representation to complement TJ Nekko's Goonies II mix. Fun energy all the way!"

Come to think of it, this DOES sound like "Major Key Vampire Killer" - thanks to Mr. Oji for the context, there. I'm a bit of a sucker for anything Goonies, and while the film actually had a superb/superior soundtrack & accompanying Cyndi Lauper jam, it's still cool to see the game's music get some love - I remember playing the VS version at Chuck E. Cheese, back in the day. Enjoy, dance, reminisce about the 80's, and whatever you do, don't touch One-Eyed Willie's Rich Stuff, which is amazingly NOT a euphemism. Great to see Don back after so many years, and great to hear something that brings back memories of both the game/film and also of his earlier work on OCR!

YES! So glad to hear this make it from the workshop forum to the big screen! Er, whatever we call the official OCR library. It's hard not to smile listening to this. Or at least indulge in some frivolous head bobbing. Anyone having a hard day should come listen to this. Well done, well done.
