Astral Tales (Ernesto Bernal) follows up a super-catchy synthwave Metal Gear debut from last year with more in the same vein, providing our first-ever featured mix of Tecmo World Wrestling:

"I've had a blast making this one! Such a funny and catchy melody. It was perfect to make a synthwave remix. I respected the main melodies, but restructured them all to give it a different vibe and flow through the song, and added some harmonies to complete the overall remix. I hope you enjoy it! Cheers!"

Everything clicks: source tune is catchy/memorable to begin with, it totally gels with a synthwave treatment, and Ernesto does a fantastic job making that happen, with octave-jumpin' synth bass, big synth brass stabs, energizing beats, and an inspiring, active melodic line. I've heard there's this thing called "exercising," and I have to imagine this would be a pretty good workout jam, or - if you're feeling Rocky - training montage material. Liontamer loves him some wrasslin' and is thus uniquely qualified to evaluate:

"Nice work adding more meat and potatoes (or, in this case, expansive writing and variations) to a classic NES theme with a fun genre adaptation. The chorus is more liberally handled than the main melody, with the second half of the track after 2:27 focusing more on the chorus, including a nice key change at 2:54. Shocked it took this long to have TWW represented here, but happy to welcome this track to the OCR stable! ;-)"

Ernesto throws in an electric guitar and even the above-mentioned key modulation @ 2'55" to help extend the mix, the latter giving me some Eurovision flashbacks :) Like Larry, I'm surprised it took so long to get this game's OST repped on OCR, but I'm thrilled Astral Tales has come along and fixed that for us - enjoy!

I am a big fan of remixing old more obscure titles like this. This remix was fun and had a nice training montage sort of vibe. Might have to add it to my workout playlist ? Good stuff!
