Shoot me! This caraaazy jungle & d'n'b FF9 "Loss of Me" ReMix should have been posted at least two months ago. Well, this way it serves as a nice pre-xmas present. Epoch aka DJ Pheonix mixes some great ingredients, including a huge descending bass, some brilliant breakbeat work, a nice synth guitar like sound, bells, and extensive voice samples of the "jungle" type i.e. "check it out booyah {unclear} the house". Love the "huh?" and "what?" samples too - that what I was sayin' when I tried to understand FF8's menu system (thankfully 9 was an improvement). This is *really* slick work for the genre, and exudes authenticity & style. If you have any love for jungle, or FF9, or better - both - you should most certainly check it out. Expect more great stuffs from this ReMixer in the future. Did I mention the bassline?

Can't say this one sits well for me. It's not the vocals... I actually don't have a problem with them at all. I just hate the samples and the fact that all the variations on the limited theme is dumped onto the percussion and voicework. It puts a lot of stress on the track, especially since the quality of sounds leaves a lot to be desired. The samples used to present the melody are not my cup of tea at all, sounding overly simple and dated.

This isn't a total trainwreck. You can't really go wrong with breakbeat drums and the voicework was inspired somewhat, but the track doesn't do all that much for me.

started out decent with a good beat, but the main synth quality and lack of velocities really drags this one down. The bass is good, though. The voices definitely give me some 2000era rave flashbacks, but were a bit annoying.

Overall this one really didn't age well at all. :-(

I do love this song, I have to admit, but it sounds like it belongs on OLR.

I like seeing how OCRs standards have changed over time.

Wow... I can't believe that I didn't listen to this sooner. This is definitely a creative interpretation of the original. Just when I thought that the crazy beat and the low bass was awesome enough, the voice samples came in and made it even better. I can see how some people could be turned off by them, but IMO, they fit well with everything else going on in the song.

I've probably listened to this about 7 times so far today, and I don't typically do that often.

Good work! You should be proud of this.

LMAO - this was a sweet mix.

Now i'd love to get all technical and talk about the timing, composition, layering, and all that other stuff that goes into mixing that (as a complete nonmixer) I don't understand. I do understand this.

Sounds awfully good.

starts slow with a good pick up, nice fast pace, you can actually plug this and play (not just to FF but any game) it's repetitive but fun and so it makes for great background without getting old.

nostalgia - MASSIVE. I used to hardcore make fun of puff daddy / p.diddy / sean combs / whoever the hell he is this week (no hate, i respect the man and actually like some of the work he's done) - and act as such : Yo! I'm P. rappin' "yo, uh, wha, wha, uh, yeah" and so on and so forth. Being a VERY white boy this was greeted with a great deal of laughter. So that whole piece made me crack right up bringin' me back - right here in work! i'm laughin like a fool!

LN - this is awesome - 2 things:

Download

Repeat

ps - is it just me or does the voice sound like a young marshall mathers? .. maybe it's just me?

I just love the low bass sound at around 1'17. Nice remix, give us another.

OK... Hm... Firstly, there's no such thing as Rose of May. In my opinion, it has some brilliant tunes. I'll be honest I have a strong antipathy with techno/rock/et cetera, but I'll try to give a non-baist evaluation.

I think that the vocals are extremely poor. EXTREMELY POOR CHOICE . Sorry, but it really doesn't go with this. It sounds mostly OK. But because of my choices, I've to give this a NWF. Not Worth FarSight-XPing.

dis brings bak the early 90s uk club scene. fast cars, they were one of the most original form of 2days drum bass. dis is a great dance tune, gud work!!!

da idea is 2 keep the crowd dance in 180bpm or higher, treat dis as a dance tune but don't judge it from a musician point of view. why u think hard house is so borin' n yet so popular worldwide?

1 last thing, da voice is the trademark 4 the uk mc scene.

:peace:out

First thought:

I can play this synth at my organ downstairs. And that´s bad.

But it quickly changed over to an another synth, along with some quick drums. I admit it, I like that guitar synth, and the bell one that comes short after. But...

The guy that shouts What What What What What What What What What What W-W-W-What was just annoying, I wouldn´t mind losing that guy in the game.

I´ll give this one 2 of 5. Or maybe 3.

I didn't like how much it repeated itself.

It was a little weird for my taste,

but that might be only me.

Dj Pheonix's best work, by far.

The intro kinda sucks onto you, just so you know it's the right song you're listening to, THEN it happens.

The drums are a surpirse, at first I thought it would be one of those typical techno mixes but when the drums build even more and the breakbeat is into my bones, the melody kicks in.

And I love the way he do it, even though the sample that he uses for the main melodie is a BIT not good, it's used to perfection.

Although something I miss in this mix is a more "hold-together-ish" feeling.

it feels like the drums is all that matters and then it's just 2-3 different loops all over again. maybe if pheonix had some mroe instruments and stuff in what you could cal the "chorus"

Still, a very good remix. Keep it up.

Nice mix. I swear I hear 'white power, white, white power, white, white power, white, white power' about 1.4 minutes in, said over and over again. Suspicous.

Strange remix of this song. It starts out odd, but kicks into a rhythm that's certainly toe-tapping. The repetition of the huh and why can be annoying to some, but it's certainly some clever use of piano and light notes here. I give it 8/10, but only just.

The song is great, but the 'huh's and 'what's get to be far too much very quickly. The scat/rap parts thrown in add a nice touch, and the song itself is great. Just watch out for repetition, like in the huh/what aspect of the song. I give it an 8 out of 10, which would have been 8.5 if not for the huh/what part.
