Arranging the music of one song...
"Opening Stage Overworld"
Primary Game: Mega Man 8 (Capcom , 1997, PS1), music by Shusaku UchiyamaPosted 2011-06-27, evaluated by the judges panel
Before today, we only had ONE Mega Man 8 mix on the whole site, from way back in 2001. Here to address this grave octal injustice is none other than James Joyner, perhaps better known as Jewbei:
"This remix came to be all because of Jade we were talking over AIM one day and she showed me this track. The moment i heard it i knew i had to do it. Jade also mentioned that this was one of her favorite tracks from that game so i gave it a shot and this was the result. Enjoy the track Jade this one is for you! I guess you can say this came from the heart thanks mother goose and always remember chin up look above the clouds."
Man, y'all are some upbeat, encouraging folks! I'm glad James was inspired, and I can hear why - this is definitely a source tune what needed some love, and the resultant electronica arrangement is solid & enjoyable. Mr. OA writes:
"Production is sick as usual on this, you've really stepped up your game the last few years, dude, no crits there at all. The arrangement has a lot of nice little references to the source, and at first I thought it was a little on the liberal side, but as I listened, it was more obvious that there were hints and snippets of the melody and recognizable backing parts throughout. Nice builds and breaks, and even though it's more of a club style ending, intended to be mixed with other tracks rather than a radio edit style that OCR prefers, it's pretty solid stuff."
Vinnie was clearly "judgin' hungry":
"Your production has really taken off recently, Jewbei - this is smooth as butter. I like the lead sounds a lot, they're interesting without being ostentatious. Sometimes I see trance as a layer cake, and in this one, all the delicious layers of chocolate, frosting, and cake are working together to make something yummier than the individual parts."
We don't call him the Indian Betty Crocker for nothing; sums it up good, though - not much to complain about! There's a lot of great music buried in "Those Other Mega Man Games" that needs to be mined by like-minded artists, and I'm glad James has given MM8 another day in the sun!

Solid beat-filled trance, now this is a treat! I love the break about a minute and a half in where the trance just vanishes and that sorta ambiant melody takes over. Such a fantastic conrast to the rest of the song and perfect for a break before going back to the beat. Glad to hear some great ReMixes for MM8. Nice work Jewbei!

Jewbei has been cranking out some solid trance mixes as of late, and this mix similarly does its job. It's a darker mix yet it gets you to space out all the same. I find it hard not to like what Jewbei does and this mix is no exception .

As more of a graphics artist, I can see a Mega Man run n' gun sequence to this, followed by a leap at 1:22 where all the noise of the world vanishes for several seconds as we enter into an epic free fall, then with the landing at 2:02... it's very cinematic in that regard.
Interesting; I can definitely see that.
Reminds me of some of blind's stuff, in particular G-Storm or the F-Zero Megamix, and that is always a good sign.
At times, the main synth is a tiny bit too piercing for me, though. Would've liked it a little quieter.

Brilliant work here. Loved the shuriken-sharped bass. Excellent stuff!

This is a very smooth rendition. Trance tends to run the gamut as far as my personal tastes and tolerances go. Momentum runs strong in this piece, but the breath, as though a leap off something very tall just happened sells it to me. As more of a graphics artist, I can see a Mega Man run n' gun sequence to this, followed by a leap at 1:22 where all the noise of the world vanishes for several seconds as we enter into an epic free fall, then with the landing at 2:02... it's very cinematic in that regard.
Interestingly, this is only the second piece on OCR that provokes very strong and definitive imagery with me. Most of the pieces on here inspire images and sequences, but usually more of an implication of such rather than such a clear visualization. Nicely done.

My son! You are far too kind to make a remix for me. I hope this inspires people to remix more from MM8! Please! The sound design and production is superior. This mother goose is a proud one.
