Another GameCube ReMix? From another newcomer? Also metal? Sure, sign us up! Following on yesterday's dose of Metroid Prime, Andy Gillion debuts with this high-octane, driving rock/metal arrangement of "Rainbow Road"'s Double Dash incarnation:

"Awesome tune, so had to do a guitar tribute to it. I've loved this song for years and can't believe I'd not remixed it before. Everyone's favourite level to fall off the edge off on Mario Kart. I couldn't get it out of my head one day and decided it was time to try and do it justice in a metal guitar orchestrated remix. I recorded all the guitars with my Axe-Fx II preamp and programmed the drums with Steven Slate samples. It was mixed and mastered in Cubase 7.5."

Guitar is front & center with a prominent, tastefully-distorted lead tone that sears & soars over the rolling, punctuated percussion. Gario writes:

"I like it. Solid production, great mixing, nice changes to the textures to differentiate the first half from the second, and while it's clear what sources are used where it nonetheless applies it to the metal style perfectly."

Jivemaster adds:

"An impressive (if somewhat predictable) rock take of the original. Your guitar tone has a good level of brightness to it, the distortion levels have a nice level of bite while keeping things clear and audible. Performance is solid. As the arrangement plays out things start off fairly conservatively, although we do see a number of licks presenting themselves over time to maintain freshness. Parts transition mostly well, although some feel too sudden (such as the break at 1:17). The panning used on the lead to alternate parts added a nice feeling of movement."

So yeah, not many surprises to be found, but does what it does well, and as Joel mentions there's attention paid to swapping between riffs & keeping things dynamic. Strong debut & a good, energetic sprint down "Rainbow Road" from Andy!

Straight to the point, I like it and honestly, sometimes you just need a rock version of a tune that just sounds good. Nice use of the invincibility star theme and awesome guitar work. I dig it

Heh, it sounds like it was transposed almost for use in a Sonic game at the start, then it goes off into the double guitar, also popular in Sonic themes.
The reason is that the notes don't go as high, and have that strange capping feel at the top of their audio ranges that most Sonic songs do.

In terms of arrangement this is pretty much the original source with some cool guitar licks here and there (section at 1:58 being the standout). Despite that, the remix sounds pretty good. Guitar playing is nice and the mix is energetic. I like it!
