Line Defense "Reversing the Alien Attack" 3:09

Stam Sarris composed the soundtrack of Line Defense, an arcade mobile game for iOS, and also sent us this ReMix of his own work, an intense bit of cinematic EDM that gradually grows in intensity & features haunting piano, delicate cello, and arpeggios galore:

"The game was released late August on the App Store and got featured by Apple under "Games We Love." It is an action arcade mobile game for iOS devices. At the moment, we are working on a major update and that`s the main reason I composed the remix of the original soundtrack. You can find more info here."

I dig the initial minor key piano motif in the upper octaves, and how the piece starts off cinematic and slowly builds while working in EDM elements. It's a little odd to receive a submission which might end up becoming part of the game itself in future versions, but game design has become more & more iterative so it makes sense. Jivemaster writes:

"Interesting to be judging a track both composed and remixed by the same artist. Nice tune btw. Things start off fairly subtle, with the main piano motif playing, with some string accompaniment. Synths progressively drop in from 0:35 following a couple of patterns, with these patterns layered to create variation. There are a few subtle sound affects along the arrangement which are appreciated, and changes between collections of instrument layers happen fairly often to help retain interest."

It's an enveloping piece that, while it certainly repeats elements, held my interest with the mostly additive layering. The cello sample won't win any realism contests, but sounds pretty darn good regardless, and the overall blend of stark, minor chamber instruments and a pulsing EDM underbelly is effective. Good stuff from Stam; we certainly don't have to worry whether the original composer would appreciate his interpretation, and both the original & this arrangement are worth checking out, along with the game!
