Happy new year from OCR, as we kick off 2019 with a high-energy, gloriously-glitched psytrance/goa take on the Deus Ex "UNATCO" theme from Sir_NutS, with maniacal/mechanical overlord voice stylings from Stephen Kelly:
"This is a psy/goa remix of the UNATCO theme. Now, this was a real doozy, with over 120 tracks in a single project. The detailing took that much work, but I think it was worth it in the end. Since we cannot use Square sampling in our mixes, I recruited once again the talented Stephen Kelly to do some voice over work and boy did he nail it. He brought a lot of needed power to the mix, and his voice clips were so cool I ended up slicing and mangling those into more glitchy sequences for some sections.
There are some sections where I go all out on the mangling and glitching, and destroying the melody structure. I had a blast. I also used a mix of my own and Stephen's recordings for sections like around 3:08, though the vocal-to-mangled sequence conversion is really used throughout the song in many places. Needless to say this is very Infected Mushroom inspired on that sense, although the fuller sections are more influenced by a more classic goa direction. I don't really want to dig into more details because this would become an essay, but suffice it to say designing all these sounds took several 8+ hours mixing sessions (though some of the layers of pads and textures are taken from things like 99Sounds' Project Exodus and took little processing) - anyways, enjoy!"
Proving the old adage "You can never have enough UNATCO mixes!" enduringly accurate, this is a heart-pumping, toe-tapping, four-on-the-floor journey into dystopia. No wait, that was 2018. I get confused sometimes. Applies pretty much equally, really, as Mike embraces many of the staples of psy/goa while applying a generous dose of glitchwork to the fray, and then Stephen's voiceover adds a narrative element which elevates the whole. Gario was concise & sums it up nicely:
"Deus Ex UNATCO can't get enough awesome remixes. Psytrance really adds a lot to the cyberpunk style of the game. I like it a lot, and I like this a lot. Nice work."
DragonAvenger adds:
"Solid mix, love the glitching here. Energy is strong and consistent without getting overdone. Nice work, bro!"
This musical genre embraces the aesthetic of the game, so it's a natural fit to begin with, plus Mike dials in some delicious glitching & really has fun with it, AND we get Stephen's VO to help frame it all; great mix & a great way to start the year!

Once that first kick drums KICKS (heh) in, this remix really starts to groove. This remix was insane. There were so many wild things happening that I had trouble keeping up with some of them! Definitely a baller rendition of the original source, which never struck me as too amazing of a theme (And I've reinstalled Deus Ex probably 10+ times.). Ultimately, this remix was very cool and has a steez (Style and Ease) that is all its' own. Bravo!

More Deus Ex! So much damn energy. Getting Tron and System Shock vibes from this too. Very cool.

Great rendition of a piece of music that I remember hearing hundreds of times in that game. The voice clips make me feel nostalgic.

This is extremely sexy. Great voice work, too. From the thick beats to the constantly varying textures, this track wins on all fronts.
Lovin' it.
