ReMix:Final Fantasy VII "Fantasy Fighting" 3:06
By Pixel Pirates
Arranging the music of one song...
"Let the Battles Begin!"
Primary Game: Final Fantasy VII (Sony , 1997, PS1), music by Nobuo UematsuPosted 2024-01-13, evaluated by the judges panel
Time for some bounce to the ounce with the main FF7 battle theme given a club-friendly twist by the Pixel Pirates! The submitting half of our duo, Tobaunta, channeled his Final Fantasy VII Remake hype into what we have now after suffering from a case of the earworm:
"When it was announced that a remake of Final Fantasy VII was in the works, I got really hyped and had the fighting music in my head for days and that is how this song was created. Was a hard tune to remix since it can't be done in normal 4x4, but, after a lot of work, we are happy with the result."
This was one where the judges had critiques and nice-to-haves on the dynamics and mixing, so you can read the decision for those, but, collectively, we always aim to evaluate how much of a track works vs. what doesn't, and the Pirates plundered the theme with a bumpin', thumpin' rework, as summarized in part from all of us, including prophetik music:
"i am really liking the bosh beat 3+3+2 vibe that this has going on throughout. it's a catchy feel and helps drive the arrangement forward. i also like the various flutey synths and how they're used - they're just very quiet."
I'm also a fan of the 3-3-2 rhythm here, even though I could have used some variations, but that shift along with the instrumentation changes was more than enough to sway even the harshest among us, like MindWanderer:
"we get a fun groove driven by that buzzy bass, and some run riffing on the theme. A bit conservative structurally, but there are more than enough twists on the theme to stay different and interesting. [...]
The percussion is great and the other layers work just fine. Arrangement-wise, even though there isn't any original writing, the pieces of the source material are rearranged into something sufficiently novel."
Is your head nodding to the groove yet? I'll admit, when I was voting I was laughing out loud in amazement at the juice this arrangement has despite the corniest instrumentation ever; the stylishness of this piece totally shows through, and it made a believer out of me, as well as Emunator:
"There's still a lot of merit to the rhythmic adaptation from the source material, and your harmonizing synths layer together in a really satisfying way. I love that Larry pointed out the "juice" this arrangement has, because I totally agree with that and never would have found the words to express that myself. It's groovy!"
Well said, and I could absolutely see this placed in a Theatrhythm setting, where this would shine as well as stand apart from anything else in that franchise! Whether you're ready to throw down OR shake it, the Pixel Pirates have you covered! :-)

Congratulations on making a remix that IMO is on par with the original (And even better in a couple parts.) This is simply a really good remix.
