Part 2 of 2!
Time to say goodbye to MAGFest for this year! We came, we saw, and we promoted this wonderful community! I even got to try my hand at X-Strike Studios' annual Video Game Name That Tune contest and put up a respectable 5-3 loss to Xander Lord in the finals! We had fun and I got to (playfully) grouse about not recognizing most modern VGM. :-P
While I hit the highway for the loooong drive back from DC to Atlanta, GA -- and fire up my backlog of Austin Wintory-hosted podcasts of The Game Maker's Notebook (recommended by Alex Moukala) -- I thought it would be novel to share two mirrored Final Fantasy VIII: SeeDs of Pandora arrangements by album co-director Jorito! These are effectively arrangement siblings which stylistically stand apart so much, they're BOTH valid OC ReMixes!
Second up is what I'll call Jorito's dark side version of "Fragments of Memories", with our players:
- Jorito: arrangement, lyrics, guitar, mixing, production
- Sirenstar: vocals
- Lucas Guimaraes: alto saxophone
- JoyDreamer: lyrics
- Kazushige Nojima: lyrics (FF8 script)
Both versions, featuring lyrics from Ellone's perspective, are sad in their own ways, but this version is shadowy and enigmatic while focused on electronic instrumentation and the whispy vocals of Sirenstar. I'm sad leaving MAGFest after fellowshipping in person with so many musicians and fans from the community; all the jokes we shared and all of the laughter, meeting you was a joy. ;-)
Do us a favor: Please read Jorito & team's comments in the MP3s (or SeeDs of Pandora's TXT documentaton) for the full context, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the "Moments" of each expressive approach!

Echoing Eino in that the spoken voice moments fit incredibly well into the mix. Solid remix, good job!

This arrangement is conceptually great. It's so much fun that it's a ReMix of a ReMix (that stands on its own!) Great intro.
A couple of things bothered me a bit; the bass drum pumps a lot for my sensitivities on the headphones, it's a bit uncomfortable and distracting for me. Also, something about the guitar competes with the vocals when they play together.
Otherwise, I like everything! The soundscape is good, the guitar sounds good, I like the saxamaphone! Great vocals, but I think surprisingly the element that clicks with me the most, is the spoken voice. It sits so well in the mix and feels just a natural part of the music! I think it's worth paying attention to, as I think it's not that easy to make spoken voice fit well with the music. Here it's a great performance that is timed and mixed to the music as a natural instrument!

[Intro]
People say you can't change the past.
But even still, if there's a possibility, it's worth a try, right?
[Verse]
Oh, I do recall
Losing all
Now that we parted ways
Our memories
Will soon fade away
The feelings I can't convey
[Chorus]
I'm stuck in the past
and I didn't see
But in the here and now,
I'll be the best I can be...
Yeah
[Break]
You can't change the past.
I just found that out.
I can no longer make it back to that moment...
[Verse]
All my thoughts remain,
You and Raine,
Times I treasured the most
All the jokes we shared and
All of the laughter,
Meeting you was a joy
[Chorus]
[Break]
I couldn't change the past but seeing it was more than enough.
What's important is right now. I finally realized that.
[Verse]
I recall the day,
Danger came
But I couldn't escape
You came running in
To save me again
Moments just like back then
[Chorus]
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
[Outro]
You can find out things about the past that you never knew.
And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the
present.
You're the one that changes.
Not the past.
