ReMix:Skitchin' "Infinite Starship Sausage Journey" 2:42

Speaking of obscure Genesis/Mega Drive games... just like minusworld's swaggin' Aah! Harimanada ReMix before this, skip the obscure ReMixes at your peril. :-) More sound design yumminess from CJthemusicdude, who's gradually built a nice lil' catalog here of Sega Genesis tributes!

Not that I was ever in the market to buy games back when it came out, but I'd played all 3 Road Rashes as a kid and I'd somehow never heard of Skitchin' -- EA's inline skating version of Road Rash -- until now. "Welcome to the party, pal" for me, courtesy of CJthemusicdude's bitchin' vision of Skitchin':

"Totally radical, dude. A remix of "Bellybutton Lint" from the Sega Genesis game Skitchin'. I spent way too much time working on this.

Way back in 2010, I submitted my very first remix to OC ReMix, which was a remix of this very track. It did not make it to the judges panel, but that means that this is technically a resubmission! The Skitchin' soundtrack is incredible and it's a shame that OC ReMix doesn't have any remixes from that game. (Yet!)"

Might be an all-time record for the gap between rejection and resubmission, that's wild. :-) When it comes to lack of any game representation, we're all about ReMixers coming in to right some wrongs around here, let's go! This one split the panel, but really just because it's LOWWWD, not because it's half-baked. Judge XPRTNovice (a.k.a. JZthevoiceactingdude) summed things up the best, acknowledging the track's waveform "sausage", while duly praising CJ's strong results:

"Really ace job on the mixing on this one - the dance soundscape is full without being a wall of sound, you've got everything space right. The loudness is a feature, not a bug, and it's managed well by spreading out the source instruments in a way that doesn't make it feel overwhelming.

Arrangement wise, it's a touch repetitive even at 2:45, but you vary things up enough to pass muster for me. The source isn't exactly rich with ideas, and you have some nice variety breaks like around 1:18 with the synthy stuff (and tubular bells, nice) coming in. We keep the driving feel of the dance beat throughout the track without fatigue. You also bring in a lot of different soundscapes that blend old and new, like Flex said, which I really found fun to listen to - and I really don't like dance music. Nice!"

CJ changing minds over here! In the same vein, fellow judge Rexy (going off discussion in our community Discord) wanted to change CJ's mind from pondering musical retirement:

"I'm all for seeing it on the site, but let me close it with some food for thought. You said you're approaching middle age, and you want to sunset your time as a mixer due to changing technology. Let me say right here and now that age should never change what you enjoy doing, so if you feel more relaxed with remixing and sound design in your 40s or 50s, go all ham. Keep being the best version of you, CJ. :-)"

I heard Tommy (:56), Eddie (1:12) & Peggy (2:00) all pop in for cameos, as well as other Genesis- and club-based shouts & SFX, and the track's energy is not only infinite but infectious! Though it's not up to us if CJthemusicdude continues arranging VGM, his creativity's without question, so we're with Rexy in hoping he doesn't hang 'em up anytime soon!
