We've been relatively quiet to open up 2025, which is on me, but we've gotta get these amazing ReMixes rollin' out. Well, buddy, I'm about to turn it all around with this one! It's an OCR/DoD Phoenix Wright superteam headed up by (evil) judge & (happy) birthday boy, Emunator, as part of this magnificent seven:

But how did this complex turnabout manage to cut through red tape that could even bog down... an attorney? Absurdly self-imposed deadlines! Emunator explains:

"Another month, another Dwelling of Duels competition that I didn't plan on entering until FOMO struck, this time 4 days before the deadline. Once again, I decided to make this everyone's problem by going all-out on a megacollab that pulls together folks from both the OCR and DoD communities. Who's to say whether that cross-pollination is a joyous union of families, or an invasion of filthy technomanga tryhards who are spreading their untz-untz all over the place? All I know is that more OCR representation into the DoD competition this year has personally motivated me to work harder and faster, in totally new styles and franchises that I never would have pursued otherwise. All the love for that community and what they're doing over there. <3

Because this track came together so fast, I found myself waking up every day to start on it and then realizing that the song had taken on a totally different style than what I had envisioned the day before. It started off as a DX7-laden new jack swing groove, which Flexstyle brought to life with a custom Battery drum kit that formed the foundation for the rest of the track. However, when I connected with jnWake the next day, he laid down a ton of different improvised parts that brought the track into a more adult contemporary jazz-fusion style, like David Benoit or Bruce Hornsby. The lines were further blurred when ZackParrish and OceansAndrew submitted their guitar parts, which, coupled with some brilliantly-placed vocal chops and SFX from Chimpazilla, inspired me to pivot towards a more modern pop vibe lifted straight from The 1975. On the last day, I received some lovely organ recordings (and orchestra hits!) from Biggoron that felt vaguely gospel-esque... so I ripped a page from Madeon's book and recorded some last-minute piano parts and added a gospel choir for good measure!

In the end, it became an amalgamation of so many sounds that were important to me throughout my life, and it all slammed together so fast that I just had to see where my inspiration took me, and trust my collaborators in the process. Special shoutouts to Chimpazilla, who did the final mixdown and mastering that lets this track shine in a way I couldn't have done myself. I cannot possibly express enough gratitude to these 6 artists who dropped everything on such short notice (OceansAndrew told me he recorded his solo less than 3 hours before hopping on a plane for a trip) to bring their A-game to this little whim of a track. Thank you all for... err, bringing this song to justice?"

What the heyyull did I just hear? 2:59 & 3:24, OBJECTION!! I see what you did there! :-P Really though, 4 days??? Man, you had to have cheated somehow. Probably AI'ed all these "collaborators". :-P Seriously, there's clearly nothing like Emunator working in a furious scramble to get his creative gears turning! It all sounds like good practice for being under the gun as a professional composer. :-D Fellow judge prophetik music tends to say things best, so when it comes to why this rocks, he's our man to prosecute the case:

"opens with some wickity-wah and drum work. the melody comes in about ten seconds in, and it's oozing with vibe. the bass part especially has a lot of character. there's loads of extra little bits thrown in too which is a nice feel. [...] i like the vocal bits - i'm surprised how well they fit into the picture actually. there's a quick fill at 1:21 and we get a bit of melodic recap. [...]

2:17's a transition into a much more open section with some key noodles and a significant vibe change. this is a fun idea to shift so hard and definitely a great time to do it. it gets into its cups a touch around 3:17 but the solo coming right after is a great idea, and i love the solo - vintage OA tone and content. i also liked the highly reactive backing parts to what was going on in the solo. the ending was right where i expected it and very much in the style by using a short phrase from the melodic material, and then it's done.

this is a fun ride! the list of collaborators is superb so it's not unexpected that the track's breadth is so wide and there's so much going on. wes does a great job taking a fun, poppy original and keeping much of the same feel while fleshing out essentially every aspect of it. excellent work."

As proph essentially said, this bop's super-stuffed to the gills with musical thrills, chills, and spills! According to collaborator and former judge Flexstyle, "The mix and master is pristine (Chimpazilla FTW), it is an absolute journey of a song packed into 4:20 of time (nice), and it makes my ear-holes very happy and my feet and hips seem to move around of their own accord when listening." Folks, you'll be movin' and groovin' too, for sure, because that's a spicy musical chimera y'all got there. :-D Another ambitiously ace arrangement approach from Emunator, brought to life by these attorney-approved all-stars!

Wow, this is super fun. Between the vocal chops and the hip hop beat with plenty of funk, this has a great deal of colorful flair that puts a smile on your face. Especially love the repeating skip beat around 3:31 during the soloing and the full on pop boxing and "woo"s reminiscent of the king at the end. Fantastic mix, always nice to see Ace Attorney getting love.

Yeah, honestly "additional piano, synth bass" doesn't really capture the scope of how much jnWake's "bullshit" helped sculpt the sound and direction of this piece - it was absolutely integral to the final product and this would not have come together without his contributions. More Wake+Emu collabs in 2025 for SURE

One of the most fun collabs I've joined! After Emunator sent me an early WIP I responded with a ton of bullshit improvised over it and, shockingly, a lot of it actually made it to the final product. My favorite part is (surprise!) the piano solo around 2:22. I wrote the first half, Emunator wrote the second and I did the final recording, so it was actually a co-written solo, which I think is super cool!
