Happy International Women's Day! As the proud product of a determined single mom, lucky husband of a strong, intelligent wife, and befuddled girl dad of a cuddly, sassy sweetie, it's time to celebrate ladies, ladies, ladies as we show love and appreciation to the women in our lives. There's no better way to do that around these parts than by spotlighting female ReMixers, so let's quickly shine the light on 5!
Fourth up, I can't believe we're now 4,800 ReMixes in, because I feel like I've been taken back in a time machine by this milestone -- with Emunator's assist, the equally infallible judge Chimpazilla transports Twilight Princess's "Lakebed Temple" all the way to the jungle!
"This remix began with my wanting to write a track in ambient jungle style. I've never done one like that, and, looking on Splice, I found some Serum jungle presets that sounded so amazing that I had to do it right away. I only had to think for a moment about what source to remix: "Lakebed Temple" from Twilight Princess. I always loved that theme, it's so weird, haunting, and totally engaging. The goal was to create a remix that captured that haunting feeling through the recreation of the big chords, while being totally upbeat and melodic rather than spooky, making it sound humongous, super groovy, and, of course, filling it to the brim with ear candy.
As usual, I sent my first little concept WIP to Wes right away. He instantly loved it. He said "This one has to be finished, and I have ideas for it already!" I ended up doing the bulk of the arrangement in just a few days, as I did on my previous submission called "Down", and Wes sent me a huge pack of unique elements to add wherever I thought they fit. This style of working together with Wes seems to be very productive and leads to an excellent track full of fun, unique sounds and writing. Nearing completion, I sent him the current WIP with no outro, and Wes said he had a wild idea for an outro and asked if he should try it. Of course, he should! What he did was so unique, so cool, and so beautifully executed, and it was a breeze to transition it onto the end of the track, completing it perfectly."
I definitely recognize one of those percussion loops! Now, it's purely because I sit in the "not musical" category, sure, but it's never not a trip when judges are impressed by talents they don't have. Fellow judge Hemophiliac marveled at Chimpa's ability to squeeze the juice from "Lakebed Temple's" minimalism:
"Small textural sources with very little melodic content always feel like they would be a challenge to arrange to me. I'm always pleasantly surprised when artists take them and get so much development and growth from them. It's a testament to your creativity to get so much here. Kudos on the expansive development and growth throughout while keeping us tethered to the ambience and the 3-note motif from the original."
Emunator's DJ Shadow-like turn at 3:47 was its own brief trip (hop) and a fun way to close things that almost seems like the connective tissue for a whole 'nother sequel collaboration between the two... Just saying. I've got a huge soft spot for jungle because of Liquid Neon's old ReMixes in my OCR fandom's formative days, so it's wonderful hearing Chimpazilla execute this genre around here with an unprecedented level of sheen. Are you with me? Whoo, this source tune was perfect for it! Infectious rhythms await you if you partake in Chimpa's riparian entertainments. Read: you need this. :-D
P.S. Congrats to Chimpazilla on her involvement with 50 ReMixes, including many with mastering, keeping it low-key. "It's pronounced 'Bouquet'!"

Kristina's been collabing a lot lately, really cool to see. I'm not sure if she's explored Drum Bass a ton, but this was a neat exploration into that genre if she hadn't, and well-executed at an immersive angle if she has! I like the ending from Wes as well, adds a somewhat spooky element, but still maintained the bubbly nature of Kristina's usual mixes.

I like this one a lot. The soundscape sounds so similar to the
actual game - it feels like it would work really well in a
Twilight Princess spin off game.
Honestly, a lot of the collaborations between Emunator and
Chimpazilla sound like they'd work well in a JRPG setting.
Something that's more out of the norm, but I could just imagine
doing something intense dungeon crawling and grinding enemies
while jamming to this.
I like it. Really good ending too. Unexpected, but it worked so well in the context of the song.
Most def you should download this one.
