We love our B-artists 'round these parts, so joining our ReMixer lineup alongside B-laze, BONKERS, and badlsdtrip, we're happy to drop a stylish Street Fighter II debut from all-caps newcomer BANANA TRASH, who's adapted Fei Long's Super-duper theme into something that's a Q-Sound jingle away from being ripped from Street Fighter Alpha 2!

"This is a bit of a reimagining of Fei Long's theme from SSFIIT in the more sleek style of the Street Fighter Alpha 2 soundtrack. I rewrote the tune to fit more clearly into the mid-90s Casiopea-influence of the SFA2 soundtrack, and I produced the whole track using sounds/samples similar to those used in the CPS-2 arcade board. This is not a 100% faithful emulation of that sound (there are modern production techniques involved), but I wanted to try and capture the general vibe of that era of Capcom games. This is more or less what I think Fei Long's theme would sound like if he had been added to Alpha 2. Cheers!"

The Street Fighter series is my personal favorite, so this is an arrangement premise I can get behind, for sure! :-) No points deducted for not being slavish to the original CPS-2 sounds & fidelity, we won't tell! :-D It certainly didn't bother fellow judge prophetik music:

"opens with EPs and a funk bass feel. the melody comes in at 0:30. this section feels a bit thinner after the more lush EPs to start it, but it lets you focus a bit on some of the countermelodic material going on. there's a time signature shift at 0:49 to 7/8, which is an interesting idea given the original's surprising drop beats that it has throughout occasionally. [...] i like the shift in chords at 1:21 to mix it up.

we get a break at 1:52 to lighten up the shuffle - essentially the first time in two minutes without it - and i like the chord choices here. there's a bit more personalization of the melodic line after this and some more shuffling with phrase length, which is nice. 2:46 is a short recap of the B section of the theme, and this functions as an outro. [...]

overall i think this is a fun take on a well-known theme. i like the genre shift and the added arrangement elements, and the track sounds good even despite the adaptation attempt towards original sound concepts. nice work."

The nostalgic feel's there for me, so I'd say this slaps on account of the SFA2 sound homage, not despite it. :-D I'm liking how the basic change in the supporting writing really adds some fresh character to this treatment of Fei Long's theme. Nice lil' time sig change at :49, I agreed with proph there, then a cool gong shot at 1:02. At 1:52, there was an effective dropoff before coming back with the beat at 2:06 and getting funkier with the interpretation. Haha at the "ATTA!" at 2:44. ;-P Speaking of little details like that one, judge Hemophiliac was noticing them left and right (see how many cool arrangement ideas and ear candy moments YOU can spot!):

"On casual listen this will feel melodically conservative. The devil's in the subtle details though. There's a lot of structural changes in this and some fun playing with time signatures. [...] What's here is clever and interesting as I keep catching new and different things on each listen. From time signature changes, to extending out phrase/section lengths, and playing with the overall structure the highlight is the arrangement here. Fun concept, very cool arrangement."

There could be more dynamics in terms of the overall groove, yet what's here is definitely quality and deceptively well-developed. Nice work, BANANA TRASH, please keep the all-caps coverage coming! :-)
