Mayday, mayday, we haven't posted anything in a minute! Let's end our drought with a "solid" splash from UK newcomer Alex Robinson, who rocks out the music of Metal Gear Solid, with a touch of Metal Gear 2 (complete with peformance video)! Robinson was not only inspired by these classic Metal Gear games, he also channeled the latest music in the Final Fantasy VII series:

"Everything in this track was made from scratch in Logic either with live instruments or programming software instruments. :)

This is primarily based on "Escape" from the Metal Gear Solid OST, but there's way more guitar. It is quite different to the original. ':D It started out as one-to-one recreation but then I thought I'd like to submit this to OverClocked ReMix and you rejected one of my previous submissions for being too faithful to the original. So, went a bit over the top with this one, haha. This remix deviates a fair bit from the original but there are also a few other Metal Gear motifs thrown in at certain points ("Enclosure", "Mantis' Hymn", "Theme of Solid Snake" - Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake).

I was inspired by the mix of orchestral elements with a metal band as heard on certain tracks from FF7 Remake/Rebirth's OSTs ("The Airbuster", "Midgardsormr"), so tried to do something in that style!"

Our newest judge, jnWake, loves him some live geetar and loves him some medleys, which made this right up his alley:

"Starts with the "Escape" strings motif but the metal adaptation changes things up pretty quickly with a big entrance at 0:04. As far as I can tell the lead guitar is mostly original material but it fits well and makes the track sound more "epic". This continues until 0:55, with the "Escape" chord progression lifted straight from the source. [...] I wanted to highlight how nice the drums sound, very punchy! [...] 0:55 has a small break but then continues with the same guitar riff from the previous section while adding other elements from "Escape" on top, like the brass melody and the classic Metal Gear string melody. 1:20 introduces a new riff which I feel is original? There's some variations then and around 1:45 we return to the main riff. At 2:06 there's a fast section with Mantis' theme, pretty cool. 2:18 has some nice guitar shredding over the "Escape" chords again and 2:44 introduces the "Enclosure" melody. Finally, there's a cool riff at 3:10 which ends the track.

On production, like I mentioned earlier, the drums sound great, very punchy and clear. Guitar tones are also great, both leads and rhythms pack a punch. Bass takes more of a back seat in the arrangement but it's very present on the mix.

On the arrangement side this is great. Intense rock for almost 3 and a half minutes with nice riffs and a lot of variety, not a boring moment in here! Usage of sources is easily identifiable even if a lot of it is background material for guitar leads. [...] Great job on the arrangement!"

While also praising Alex's cohesion, fellow judge Hemophiliac awarded full style points for nailing the modern day FF7 style:

"This is pretty slick. You 100% nailed what you were going for in trying to get a FF7 Remake/Rebirth boss battle vibe going. The different themes were woven together nicely, feels like one new piece of music to me. [...]

I really liked the staccato choir chants as an accent to pickup the energy before getting into "Enclosure" from Metal Gear Solid.

Super high energy for 3:26 and I'm surprisingly not exhausted from a lack of change of pace. Switching off to other sources did well to prevent that."

Very smooth references to the several other Metal Gear tracks that comprised the piece, and in this house, we stan Metal Gear 2 music ALWAYS! For high-octane Snake, look no further than Alex Robinson's heavy-hitting debut! :-)
