It's kinda crazy that Joshua Morse ISN'T on this album, as it's probably our funkiest to date! While not every track is packing funk in the trunk, there's a strong vein of jazz/funk/hip-hop flavor running through the overall Temporal Duality experience, and I'm really psyched & appreciative that's how things turned out. Here with an amazing debut jam is newcomer begoma (Kary Brown), with an assist from Sir Jordanius (as W!SE the all.E) on a stellar funk-soul arrangement with live brass, smooth & inspired vocals, a rap breakdown... is there anything this mix DOESN'T have? Completely unique in its own right, as with the previously-posted "Time Traveler's Delight," this is a singular treat that packs a musical punch and would stand as an epic mixpost all by itself. As part of the larger context of Temporal Duality, well, DAMN; I'mma stop talking and let Kary take it from here:

"begoma: I am a big Gnarls Barkley fan, so I wanted to do something with an RnB/soul vibe. I also wanted to do something that was significantly different from the original track while keeping some of the original flavor. Jordan was a HUGE help here as his rap and horn parts make the track shine. I have nothing but good things to say about him and Matt. I have grown so much as a musician, composer, and mixer from this experience!

W!SE the all.E: I enjoyed begoma's clever spin on "You Can Do Anything" because after already being mesmerized by the cheesy 90s-esque original and the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed version I was very curious as to how he could possibly flip it up with an interesting twist. So once I heard his first few WIPs, I was immediately digging how he greatly slowed the source tune down and dipped it in a sea of deep funk and soul. At first I was just going to help out with production suggestions and advice, but then begoma asked me to lend some rapping for the breakdown as well as a few horn parts here and there. I think begoma has come up with a killer arrangement, and I was glad to help out with it!"

Absolutely badass; I'm so happy & proud to post mixes like this on OCR, which do something ambitious & unique and kinda fill a musical hole of sorts, from a genre/instrumentation perspective. This arrangement takes me back to the 70s (okay, I was born in 1979, but you know what I mean) & manages to achieve an authenticity through conviction & execution that is almost shocking... Director SuperiorX writes:

"When Kary first "auditioned" for the project, he showed me some samples of stuff from his band Jackson Cannery and I immediately got hooked on the southern rock/blues vibe he had going. So when he told me he wanted to do a slowed-down RnB/soul version of "You Can Do Anything," I was sold. I think Kary's voice fits this style perfectly and was such a good match for this track. Combined with the stylings of his electric and acoustic guitar parts, I can't help but get swept away with this song.

Jordan hopped on the track towards the end to add some live horn parts, which I think really added a nice upbeat Motown sort of feel to the track, and the rap verse in the middle of the song, which just felt like such a natural "bridge" section. He really nailed it there. This ended up being quite a refreshing departure from the style of the original source, yet it retains a lot of its energy and "feel-good" vibe. A solid solo debut from Kary. I'm really excited to hear what else he has in the works!"

Creative, fresh, unexpected, & completely enjoyable, this is the type of music that almost masks the difficulty of execution & all the artistry involved by simply being such a fun jam. A warm welcome to Kary & a legit BRAVO to both he & Jordanius for helping cement Temporal Duality's funk/soul bent with such a killer cut!

It's a very nice song, but it sounds like most of the vocals were done in a small room without much soundproofing? By this I mean it sounds like the vocals can't really be belted out to give it a tad more feeling, as if they don't want to wake up a neighbor. This in return gives some of the chorus at the beginning and end the feeling that they're half awake, or possibly lying on their sides as they sing.

I like that more people are attempting to add lyrics to their songs, but lyrics are a bit harder to adjust so they feel 'right' without the correct environment. Nevertheless keep at it.

Thank you guys for the comments! They are greatly appreciated. And just to show you that I have love for the original: https://soundcloud.com/karybrown/sonic-you-can-do-anything

I made that demo a year ago. Submitted it to Matt to get on the project. If any ladies are interested in helping me finish it that would be awesome.

I just heard this on the Sega Mixer Driver listening party, and I liked it a lot. Classy rnb-style vocals, really good, strong song, and it remind me of the McAlmont Butler album, which is a pretty good thing in my books. Looking forwards to listening to this more!

Is there any other duo that has smoother funk-esque voices than Begoma and Sir Jordanius? I'd be hard pressed to find'em. Really, smooth is what comes to mind for me with this soul-funk ReMix. Damn good stuff, fellas!

W!SE the all.E:

That's right, so come on out, and lose the doubt, live paramount
and join us up the mountain as we're scoutin' around (for stragglers)
still haven't found a way to turn that frownin' past upside down today
(true, hard work) it usually pays but ya can't abstain (or refrain) from enjoyin' riding the wave
(ya focusin' too much on a speed play), ya might miss time-changing moments along the way
'cause only badniks (burn bridges) without hesitatin' or double-takin' some time
to allow the mind to be mesmerized (amidst the fray) by emerald opportunities
to tune out the noise, (destroy the void), the chaos, (always believe!)
and whenever bots try to get you to lay off
just go super sonic speeeeed (toot toot!), 'cause you can do anything!
