Newcomer Sebastien Skaf (also known by the Gundam-inspired handle Nicol Armarfi, and one of the composers for Katawa Shoujo) sends us an intimate solo piano debut arrangement of EarthBound - our first from the game since 2012, if you can believe that, but certainly not our last this year:
"Not much to say about this one; it's a solo piano arrangement in a fairly modern style. I played it through MIDI using NI's Alicia's Keys piano samples and did some basic mastering in FL Studio. There's a lot of dynamic variance in this one due to the genre and style, so a lot of it ended up sounding pretty quiet compared to the louder section in the last 1/3rd, but that's an easy fix if it's too much of an issue. Other with that, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out."
Very purdy, VERY mellow, and very appropriate for sharing a special moment with a special someone this V-Day. Chimpazilla simply writes:
"This is gorgeous and a very easy yes for me, plenty of source and beautiful interpretation that brings tears to my eyes."
"Very beautiful arrangement and performance here. Sebastien tackles a really delicate source here by keeping things relatively restrained initially, then gradually building as it progresses."
JUST because a mix is solo piano and on the mellower side doesn't guarantee it's appropriate for Valentine's Day, but in this case the vibe is pretty warm & lovey-dovey, plus the source tune is "Because I Love You," so I think the connections are there :) It's even better if you happen to be named Paula, but even for the many non-Paulas out there, this is a touching & tender take on one of the many great pieces from the EarthBound OST. Hope to hear more from Sebastien, and great to see more submissions from indie game composers!

Beautiful arrangement -- I never played Earthbound but I know this source. The atmosphere, while a little melancholic, is relaxing. The performance is on-spot. You created something very nice, good job!

I find that nocturne usually means it does some kind of arrangment on the theme, this song fits the word perfectly. I think that is why i could listen to it solely as a solo piano arrangment, valentine or no! It really is lovey-dovey. Good job there!

Stunning solo-piano playing. I pretty much agree with Nutritious, taking it slow at the start and building it up was an awesome choice and I love how this glides to a slow end. That's beautiful. Great first mixpost, fella!

Saw the title and had to listen. You're missing out if you don't listen to this. It's so wonderful.
