Happy MOTHER'S Day!!
A ReMix of Mother (NES), on Mother's Day... it's almost like we planned it! ;) This peaceful & quite beautiful extended solo piano arrangement of Mother from jdaster64 (Jonathan Aldrich) seems like a good way to reflect:
"Hey! Nearly 25 years after its initial translation, Nintendo's finally let MOTHER see the light of day overseas! Anyone with a Wii U seriously needs to check this masterpiece out now! (And anyone who doesn't, get one!) And remember... no crying until the end!
Since MOTHER, one of my favorite games of all time, finally got released worldwide as EarthBound Beginnings, I had to cover something from this as soon as possible. I thought I'd do a piano arrangement of one of its lesser-appreciated tracks. This was my first introduction to the series, and if not my favorite of the three, it certainly has my favorite soundtrack.
This is a bit of a reflective improvisation on the "Fallin' Love, and" theme (and a bit of "Magicant" in the middle). Not much else to say about it, but I like how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it!"
Emunator writes:
"Ahhh... very soothing. A lot more meditative and somber than Jonathan's (excellent) previous submissions, but it showcases his diversity as a pianist and demonstrates that he can work from a more emotional angle as well. The arrangement keeps a much more improvisational, free-flowing form, but without ever losing sight of the original source and going too far off-rails. Very nice stuff, and thanks for exposing me to more music from the Mother soundtrack, which I've obviously been sleeping on up until now!"
This runs long relative to most solo piano arrangements, but the time is well spent, with good use of space & quiet... very pensive. Also some striking, more unusual intervals/intonations that are harder to anticipate and which give an otherwise serene meditation a dash of uncertainty & melancholy at points. Great stuff, pitch-perfect for the occasion; relax, give it a listen, and then CALL YOUR MAMMY (where applicable) and let her know you love her!
