BROOTL Nazi-huntin' shreddage; newcomer mikedm92 (Michael Markie) hits us up with a much-needed dose of aggressive metal, arranging the main menu theme from Wolfenstein 3D & "Evil Incarnate" from the Spear of Destiny follow-up/prequel:
"These are my two favorite songs that are in Wolf 3D and I thought it'd be fun to mash them up and give them my spin. Medley of "Evil Incarnate" (Spear of Destiny) and "My Loved Ones Are Gone" (Wolfenstein 3D main menu theme). Original songs composed by Bobby Prince.
A very challenging song to make! Finding space for all of the layers was tough. I wanted to try take the climax of the guitar solo and raise it on an emotional level. The original songs are quite somber and I wanted to reflect that, but using the loudness and power of heavy metal."
We mentioned this last month with Mike Norvak's Duke Nukem 3D mix that Bobby Prince's brother created a GoFundMe for Prince's recent colon cancer diagnosis. As he convalesces after what we hope was a successful removal of the cancer, please support his medical fund if you're a fan of his myriad of influential PC game soundtracks. In this scene, Bobby Prince is one of our "Loved Ones." ;-)
Judges were unanimous; Gario writes:
"Delicious metal remix of some classic music... oh boy, do I like it. The power metal is just pure chuggy goodness, and the switch to the ballad, while a little sudden, works beautifully to break the piece up. I could hear this as an instrumental on a Megadeth album, and it would work amazingly well. Considering Megadeth DID do a VG metal arrangement or two in his time (Duke Nukem!), that's not entirely out of the range of possibilities."
MindWanderer adds:
"It does seem a little medley-ish on the surface, but as Gario said, it's not an uncommon form, the transitions are elegant, and as a whole it flows quite nicely. The musicianship is solid, the interpretation is on point. Great job taking some primitive MIDI music and infusing it with life."
I dug it; things felt cohesive to me, and the new bits were a pleasant surprise, not jarring or superfluous. Very aggressive, full tones, meaty drums, and an arrangement that hits hard but also lets up & works in some cool ideas. Excellent debut from Michael, defeinitely looking forward to a follow-up!

Need more Wolf 3D! I could totally see this in a remake. It's awesome. A nice, steady burn throughout. I like the pause at 1:44 and its progression into 2:44. Great transitions.
