Our FIRST EVAR ReMix of A Link Between Worlds comes courtesy Chimpazilla (Kristina Scheps), who offers up a moody, dark, & suspenseful arrangement of the "Swamp Palace" theme in a blend of symphonic & EDM, with some trap elements to round things out:
"Hey, guys! I recently finished my third playthrough of Link Between Worlds, and I'm completely obsessed with the Swamp Palace theme. This theme combines a very sweet sine bell lead and somber piano with some awesome out-of-tune backing kettle bells, a filter-moving synth arp, and eerie atmosphere: a perfect song to listen to while losing all hope. My desire was to remix this theme with an even higher creep factor, but with a bit of groove as well. This is my first attempt at anything trap-like, and the trap is more accent than main genre, as the song is generally an orchestral/electro hybrid. We could call this orches-trap, should we be so inclined. I hope the track makes you feel as gloomy as I intended!"
Source use:
- 0:06-0:41 - "Swamp Palace" (arp only)
- 0:41-1:49 - "Swamp Palace"
- 1:49-2:17 - "Hyrule Castle"
- 2:17-2:44 - "Hyrule Field" and "Hyrule Castle," played as melody and countermelody
- 2:44-3:12 - "Swamp Palace"
- 3:12-3:39 - "Swamp Palace" (melody interpreted)
- 3:39-4:00 - "Swamp Palace"
Achievement unlocked: gloominess++! I wish I had time these days for a FIRST playthrough of most games :) I dig how Kristina works in oboe and clarinet, here, and overall how the orchestral elements blend with the electronic/ambient - the former isn't about authenticity/realism as much as atmosphere, and the resulting juxtaposition gets under your skin in all the right ways. Gario writes:
"Very solid arrangement, clean production and some powerful drum work. I'm personally happy that Link Between Worlds is getting some first time love, as it DOES have a solid stand alone track. Not enough 3DS music on OCR, so this'll help alleviate that greatly. Nice work!"
Not enough DS music, either :) I'll echo Greg that it's great to see this game represented on OCR, and I'm not surprised that Kris beat everyone to the punch given her affection for it & the series in general. This double mixpost is a little manic-depressive, since Greg's uplifting SMRPG is followed by C-zilla's Gloomy McGloomface hybrid Zelda, but hey... this way we've got both sides covered. Atmospheric, unique stuff from Chimpazilla which illustrates some of the branching out she's been doing and achieves a specific, overcast, & quietly unsettling groove. Check it out!

The watery sound is definitely there. I'm not particularly fond of the original theme, but this remix did it justice. Again, I'm not particularly fond of the original theme in the SNES game.
