ToxicxEternity (Jack Fliegler) follows his intuitively-titled 2016 "Aquatic Shrediance" debut up with this energized metal take on "Dragon Roost Island" from Wind Waker:
"Here is an acoustic/metal guitar cover/remix of the Dragon Roost Island theme from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker! Tried to have a balance of acoustic chillness with some heavy metal thrown in! Also composed some original riffs towards the middle to solo over!"
We start off mellow enough, and you wouldn't necessarily guess that the dragon was eventually going to be swaggin' quite so hard, but things become increasingly metallic; drums get meatier, power chuggage ensues, and distortion reigns. I like how this all gets dialed in, first with the electric guitar and then with layering & rhythm parts becoming more aggressive. Chimpazilla writes:
"So good, oh so good. I'm not a fan of super hard panning, which I hear in the intro, but it's brief. Other than that, this is dynamite. 6/8 metal + Wind Waker = win."
Pretty much; Jack does a great job expanding a bit & integrating an original solo, production has impact & presence, and the overall dynamic contrast between the mellower acoustic bits & the high-octane shreddage is super-effective. What's not to like? Great to see Jack back on OCR, and I think a lot of folks will dig this; it's accessible, it's a lot fun, and it does what it does quite well. Enjoy!

Ooh that bass is tight! I also really like the way the acoustic and electric parts were mixed in the first half!

Very neat treatment of a fun, if frequently covered, source material. I've always liked Dragon Roost Island, and while I feel like there are quite a few arrangements of it out there, I definitely dig this different take on it.

Great performances, great composition.
Kinda wish the judges had pulled this one back a for some fine tuning of the stereo balancing (not just talking about the hard panning, it's a bit wide and center in places and there's some acoustic inconsistency)
It's a hard criticism to give, especially as total amateur with conductive hearing loss . No doubt the blending of styles probably ups the mixing degree of difficulty considerably.
