Arranging the music of one song...

M Benson follows up his FF6 debut from last October with this loose, funky, & creative FFX rock/jazz/funk jam, transforming "Silence Before the Storm":
"Hello again, thanks for posting my last submission! This one is a saxophone feature with a funk rock kinda thing going on. Everything is live instruments besides a lone synth at the beginning. I tried to use the source material as much as possible with the rhythms quite altered to fit into a 4/4 funk thing. Enjoy!"
The vibe has definitely been funkdafied successfully; Liontamer writes:
"Damn, what a transformation. :-) Way to take such a delicate and chill source and completely alter its flavor and energy. I dug the change to 4/4, but of course the arrangement goes well beyond that in giving this the funk treatment: nice, subtle bassline work, amazing drumming, and a smooth sax performance. The comping in 3:14's section over the arranged source bassline was also fun before heading back into one last focus on the melody at 4:44 to close this out. For any casual fans, be sure to compare this to Nobuo Uematsu's original song. One of the coolest and most interpretive arrangement approaches I've heard in my 17 years in the community, and that's saying something. Nice work, Mike!"
Ditto that; it's a complete makeover that changes the atmosphere but retains core melodic components, transitioning from something reflective to something infectious with style & ease. Basically, it delivers on everything you'd expect, given the mix title, and there's even a faux ending in there to keep you on your toes. It's interesting to think of Mike hearing this source and being inspired to funk it up in the first place, because it's not an obvious/intuitive direction to take, but he ran with it and absolutely made it work. Excellent, imaginative, and toe-tapping stuff!

Those claps were incredibly distinct to me for some reason. This is a total bop and a jam. Very smooth and cool. ? Great job on this!

Oh man, this turns the dial ALL the way up on the funk. The feel/sound is so wildly different from the source tune that I applaud the remixer's ability to stay with the normal flow of the piece - not a lot of unique solos are needed to make sections like 1:00-1:20 and 1:52-2:22 really hop. It's like a saxophonist dream mixed with the most fun walk through a woods section I've ever heard. The 3:11 fake ending really threw me, btw. Well done here!!
