Time to wake up from the rather pleasant dream of Songs of the Sirens & continue on with our queue; next up we've got the Retro Brothers (Jeffrey van der Schilden, Nick van der Schilden), who follow up their Operation Wolf C64 chip/edm debut jam from May with a similar treatment for shmup Terra Cresta. Little Jester (Jeffrey) writes:
"Check out what we did with his excellent Terra Cresta SID opening salvo. Hope you enjoy and accept our submission!"
With this and their previous submission, I love how chip & lo-fi textures still dominate the landscape, but they also have some modern EDM structures and unique sound design (check the ending, here) going on. Gario writes:
"Y'all seem to be some real C64 magicians; so far what I've heard from you guys has been dope. This track really takes the original's spacey and harsh atmosphere and adds some soul to it. The swing beat, combined with the silky smooth lead and C64 synthwork behind it just leads to something that's overall greater than the sum of its parts (and the crafting of each part is excellent).
Great stuff from you guys so far, though, looking forward to more!"
Synth solo is indeed buttery, and almost takes things in a jazz/fusion direction with some of the noodling; very chill. Intro/outro both have some interesting fx/dsp going on, and the whole thing is easy to get into while still offering depth. More great stuff from the van der Schilden siblings!
