Arranging the music of 2 songs...
"Departure", "For Endless Fight II"
Primary Game: Mega Man Zero 2 (Capcom , 2003, GBA), music by Chicken Mob, Ippo Yamada, Luna Umegaki, Masaki Suzuki, Tsutomu KuriharaPosted 2019-12-02, evaluated by Liontamer
We start the week with another cut from X over Zero: Mega Man Metal, as Cyril the Wolf (Connor Pelkey) blends "Departure" & "For Endless Fight II" from Mega Man Zero 2 into a rock/metal vocal track that oscillates between angsty, slower material and an uptempo assault of chugs & drums:
"These two tracks are basically played side by side in-game as well, so just used that to my advantage to segue into Zero's feelings on being without X. Feeling like you're not enough is a common feeling, so it was easy to paint that picture with words."
Connor's vocal style is unique and at times kinda channels the immediacy & roughness of punk; this has more of that feel than the previous mix we posted, and leans less on hooks & harmonies, at least for the vox. Instead, it's a quieter affair, at least initally, as clean electric and a steady pace make for a dark, reserved intro that eventually blossoms into shreddage. Lyrics deserve a special mention, as Connor again crafts a game-world narrative that imbues the story & backstory of the characters in question with additional dramatic weight + depth. A little less catchy/anthemic and a little darker and more psychological, this offers a different look into X over Zero and a variation on the flavors introduced with the preceding debut mix. Good stuff!

This was a delight. It's clear a lot of fun and heart went into this, and the energy carries through the remix. Excellent job! :)

In much of the same way I feel Naoki Hashimoto delivers the lyrics to a lot of guilty gear songs to paint a picture of the characters, I feel Cyril can really dig into the emotional side of Mega Man Zero’s music and this is a good example. Unique for sure, and as heavy as it deserves. Not bad, man.

Here I am again
Pushing through the wind
Each step is more unsure
Dust keeps my vision blurred
A hundred years have gone
It doesn't seem that long
The actors may have changed
But the scenes are all the same...
I see them at my back
The sins I can't forget
I know I used to fight
Even that has lost its light
If only you were still here...
At last the air is still
Awakening my will
Clear skies reflecting blue
I'll see your vision through
until I die
Every time I look behind
I see a different memory
Ghosts of all that we've been through
Another day, another war
Another declaration of destiny...
Now I know they're never true
[Chorus]
(When you ask me why)
If it seems like a departure
There's a world to change
Then I have to be
something more than me
Oh, yeaaaaah!
Concussive blasts surrounding me
I hear the shrapnel pass my ear
There's no fun here anymore...
The warhawks becoming vultures
as my vision starts to clear
So, what was I fighting for?
[Chorus]
There is nothing more to give
I've even left behind my pride...
But at least the air is still...
As my vision fades to black
I can finally see why you tried
Though your dream was unfulfilled...
[Chorus]
